On a related point, I was wondering what people think of the kind of question that comes up sometimes in pupillage interviews along the lines of "Pick three people to share a hot-air balloon ride with. Then imagine there's a puncture and you'll have to throw one person out. Who would you save?". Does anyone have experience of answering this kind of (slightly ridiculous!) question?

It's not a slightly ridiculous question. It's a hugely ridiculous question. It's designed to find out more about someone's personality and interests, but it rarely has that effect because it just makes candidates panic. I'd like to think most sets are shying away from questions like that nowadays, but they are still around. The key is not to think that there is a right answer to the question, or that there is a legal answer to the question. Don't even try to be clever with it, because invariably that won't work. Just pick an interest that you have, be it a sport, hobby, politics, or anything else, and incorporate that into your answer. You'll probably be asked a follow up, but given that you've chosen a subject that you know about, you'll have no problem with the follow up. Simple as that. But as has already been said, this question isn't one that will make or break your pupillage chances. So even though it's one that causes widespread panic among candidates, it shouldn't.

Is that for the pupillage specialising in Corn Law? 😁

Anyway no, I haven't submitted mine yet - but would be grateful to hear whatever you find out.

Just rang them and it's a mistake apparently, the application process is still open until 28th January 2019 so you've got time still
Has anyone who has applied heard from Parklane Plowden today regarding the family pupillage? I know that they gave themselves until Wednesday, but just thought I would check.
Anyone else not able to access gateway online? It's coming up with a message saying it is down for essential maintenance?

This happened to me yesterday. Just keep refreshing the page and it should work.

I haven't heard anything. Applied for the civil pupillage. Have you heard anything?

I received an email from their family pupillage team to say that although they had expected to inform us of the outcome of the sift by tomorrow, technical difficulties in chambers have made that impossible.

I am unsure if this will change the date on which we will be told about civil (I applied for civil also).

If I am updated in any way, I will post on here.

For those who are currently completing Gateway applications and who have completed the BPTC with LLM - how are you dealing with this? There is no option to select on the drop down box, but I do want to highlight my dissertation result. Any advice?

Our dissertation connected to the BPTC is pass / fail because apparently it can’t affect the BPTC result - Can I assume by your post yours have been graded? :-(

Yes - I received a specific grade for my LLM dissertation and a separate result for my BPTC. May I ask which provider you attended?
