There are some ideas/teachings/doctrines that have been adopted by modern day Christians in the attempt to appease the secular society so they don't 'hate' us and so they can come to our churches to fill up our offering baskets. however these teachings are false and not biblical. know this fellow Christians
1Jn 3:13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
Joh_15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
Therefore, those who call themselves Christians, I encourage you to be bold and not conform to this society and its changing morals, but stand by the Word of God
Rom_12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
I’ll start with just one incorrect teaching:
Judging:
Nowadays, many Christians are against judging, if I were to tell a Christian who was in fornication that what they’re doing is sin and that they should forsake such a lifestyle before Gods wrath is upon them. Many will cry out some of the following phrases, “Judge not!” “Only God can judge me! You have no right” “take out the beam from your own eye first!” “Hate the sin love the sinner!” “Love they neighbour hypocrite!”
Now allow me to respond to each quote,
“Judge not”
Many like to say the first two words, but don’t go on to quote the whole verse. This phrase is in 3 of the Gospels, Matthew, Luke and John, I will address all three.
Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Mat 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
This verse is not saying we shouldn’t judge because it is wrong and not our place to do so, but rather it’s a warning, look at verse 2, what the Lord Jesus is saying, is that the way you judge others, the same way will God judge you. For example, if I have a friend who used to be in fornication and no longer does it and has repented, and I judge them like “you dirty whore! That’s disgusting! I can’t even look at you!”, then when I do wrong, God will judge me as harshly as I judged them. Make sense? So in a way, it’s telling us, judge how you want to be judged.
Luk 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
Luk 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
This is again like the previous verse, it is a warning as you can see at the end of verse 38, it has very similar warning to the verse in the Gospel of Matthew.
Joh_7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
This verse is telling us not to judge people by how they look, for example, if I’m on a bus and I see a teenage girl get on with a buggy and a toddler, what I shouldn’t is think “oh! Another teen mother playing the whore, what an embarrassment to her family”, that is clearly judging by mere appearance, for all we know those two kids are her younger siblings she’s just picked up from nursery and is on her way to meet her mother to go out to eat for dinner. And if you read the last part of this verse the Lord Jesus tells us to judge righteous judgement. So clearly, as a Christian, you have a right to judge and it’s not a bad thing to do so.
“take out the beam from your own eye first!”
Mat 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Surely this should be as clear as day to you that this is about hypocrisy. For example, if I judge someone (and harshly too) because they’re watching wicked shows like Lucifer, or Vampire diaries or Game of Thrones and I’m telling them “LOVE NOT THE WORLD FOOL!”, I’d be an absolute hypocrite, because number one, I used to watch those exact same shows, but number two, I myself still haven’t fully obeyed when the Bible says “Love not the world”. What I should do is sort out my own business and learn to not love the things of this world then I go back and GENTLY and KINDLY (in my opinion) exhort them also forsake those shows. Does that make sense?
“Hate the sin love the sinner!"
Firstly know that that’s not even in the Bible. It was Ghandi who said that not the Lord.
But I will agree that the idea is sometimes supported in the bible, you hate prostitutions with your guts but you don’t hate the prostitute.
But if it’s someone who flat out hates the LORD with all their guts, well…
2Ch 19:2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD.
Psa 139:21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
Psa 139:22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
Now before I am told we should love our enemies, I absolutely agree, we should love all our enemies. But when did Jesus tell us to love God’s enemies?
“Love they neighbour hypocrite!”
If you didn’t already know, this is not some new commandment Jesus gave, he was actually quoting the Old Testament:
Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
Now if Jesus is quoting a commandment from Leviticus, don’t you think that means Jesus didn’t throw out Leviticus then like most people love to say. In fact, Leviticus 19 expands on what it means to love your neighbour(from verse 9 actually):
Lev 19:15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
Lev 19:16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.
Lev 19:17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
So not only are we to love our neighbour, but we are to judge them also, in righteousness. And as you see in verse 17, to love you neighbour is to rebuke them and to not suffer sin upon them. By the way, to ‘suffer’ in the Bible usually means allow, so it’s saying to not allow sin upon your neighbour.
So how should we judge righteously? I think when we see a fellow Christian committing sin 1) are we doing that same sin or something similar? Then 2) kindly tell them they’re doing wrong and show them how from the Bible. And 3) judge how you want to be judged, now if you want to harshly rebuke them, go ahead, but think first if that’s how you would want to be judged. I’d personally prefer to be harshly rebuked if I were committing some wicked sin because I think I’d snap right out of it afterwards, but I also like gentle exhortation.
I hope you Christians learned something new, the moral of this thread is to encourage you to read the Bible (the KJV of course) for yourself and not rely solely on your pastor, but to see if what they preach is true and biblical
Act_17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
comparing scripture with scripture (not study bibles! That’s comparing scripture with man’s wisdom, Allow the Holy Ghost to teach you for once)
1Co_2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
