I did an interview last year there, I took am A2 folder, I think it's the best, not too big not too small. And only put ur best work in there, if it’s something extra, leave it at the end. Good luck!!!!!

Hi! Most universities I’ve applied to request A2 as A1 is pretty big but I’m not sure for this specific course. Have you had to send off a pebble pad portfolio and if so how long did it take to hear back for an interview?

I haven’t applied yet, I’m gonna leave it until the end of January as still putting my portfolio together. Thank you though I think I’m going to do A2

In the digital one, they asked for 10 I think, it was really tight, they decide to call u in just by looking at 10 pages (which I think is very limited) I had to put in my best sheets... And by best I mean try to put the existing ones, and the ones that bring attention.

Hi there !

Some portfolio advice I’d like to give you is to firstly make your portfolio either A1 or A2 size .You should include a variety of artworks , textiles samples , fashion illustrations or design ideas in your portfolio which show off your skill set and the different ways you can work in . Include some small work , some larger scale work , some flat work and some more 3D work , a variety of textures etc. Variety is key !

Include pieces of that reflect the design story/ process of your work . Your portfolio should tell a story , whether that is the narrative or concepts behind the projects you include in your portfolio or the more personal story of you as a designer !

Use your best pieces of work ! Quality over quantity.

For more information go online to the official UAL website and look under the specific course requirements of the course your interested in . There should be a section on portfolio advice under every course .

Hi , Ellie !
Glad to hear you found my tips and advice helpful . For the fashion pathways it would be good to have some life drawings (more specifically fashion illustration or garment ideas). However life drawings are not essential! Do remember that the actual pathway you’d be applying into is titled ‘ fashion & textiles ‘ the two go hand in hand and you’ll be exploring both before specialising in either fashion or textiles towards the end of the course . Therefore consider exploring textiles aswell , include some textiles samples and then explore how they could be applied to the body ! Interesting ways could be drawing , collaging , photoshop etc .

Most portfolios are done in a landscape format , some are portrait. Either way it works best if you stick to one format or another . So if your portfolio is landscape any life drawings or illustrations should also be presented on a landscape piece of portfolio card / paper !

I was wondering if anybody knows what is the minimum amount of sheets to send for the mini portfolio, whereas the difference between mini portfolio and full portfollio review?also is it forbidden or a disadvantage to do it in A3 ? considering if I do get to the final stage of the application I wont be able to fly and show it personally and as in my country the largest sheet size able to scan is A3, so choosing a larger size would be quite complex in my casethank you!!

Hi I was told at the open day 20 sheets for the mini portfolio, but you can put multiple pages onto one as long as it’s clear to see. They didn’t specify a size, but A1 or A2 is the norm I think, but if you’re only scanning it and they won’t see it in person then this is fine I think?

hi! they took a week in my case, I got the link to pebble pad this week and sent the application off last week
also does anybody know if its essential to have a same style throughout the whole portfolio? cause I have really varied projects
