Need help/info on applying to a Functional Skills Maths Level 2

Hi all,
I am interested in completing & passing a Functional Skills Maths Level 2 course.

I wanted to ask ;

- What is the best course provider for this in London? (I have seen some good reviews on Intech Centre?) .

- Should I only only apply to a course provider that does exam in “edexcel”? I did hear that doing the exam from “city & guilds” is a lot harder to pass.

- What revision materials/ books should I invest in to help me revise?

- Finally I ask, is this equivalent to a Maths GCSE?

Thanks for taking the time to read this & it would be much appreciated if you could give me any advice on this.

Thank you.

I can answer a few questions, but not all.

1. It is a level 2 qualification, which is the same level as GCSE. It is not the same as one though. Universities may accept it instead of GCSE Maths, but any will refuse it as it deosnt involve the same depth or variety of subjects. If accpeted it is considered to be no higher than a grade 4 and some unis require a rade 6. If you have FS then you shuld ask the uni if they will accept FS instea of GCSE.

2.I dont know tbh. CGP produce some text and workbooks specifically aimed at FS Maths. I would start there, but you can also use mathsgenie and other sites.

3. I dont know about differences in syllabus. I expect unis and employers are indifferent to exam boards and just see it as FS.

4. Almost all colleges will run a FS course and its usually free if you dont have GCSE maths. I believe you can attempt it it every six weeks.
