Brexit - your perspective over the years

Brexit

Everyone is talking about it, but how does the TSR community actually feel about it since this all started back in 2016?

Over the past three years we have asked for your opinions on Brexit and whether you would choose to remain in or leave the EU.

We've put a poll out each year asking you how you would vote, both before and after the referendum. We then collated your votes from these poll to see if there had been a change in opinion the further we get toward the March 29th deadline. We've seen that over these three years, there has been a shift towards more people wanting to remain in the EU.

What do you think about these results? Is it something you expected, or did you expect more of a change in opinion?

Let us know your thoughts below!

I refused to vote because in my eyes remain should not be an option.

The education industry is extremely pro remain and this may have a little to do with funding it gets and furthermore the teaching's it carries out?

Do I think this has something to do with the results, yes do you?

No great change for me. I'm still pretty indifferent, and I don't mind either leave or remain.

But my dislike of the attitudes and behaviours (especially when they speak/type) of a large number of the people involved in the debate - anyone who gets involved in the insults, abuse, sneering, name-calling, and so on - has grown a little. It was bad enough putting up with them for a few months... after several years they're getting extremely irritating.

Or perhaps young students / graduates see Europe as an opportunity for them personally. Once we have our sovereignty, we will still be run by unelected quangos or self-serving privilated public school educated boys playing games for their own gain. Any idea that the people will be more in control is an illusion. Everything good that has happened to this country since the Tories got in has come from the EU. Brexit asside, name one good thing the Tories have done since 2010?

The Conservatives very rarely do anything positive, since 2010 they have excelled themselves in complete economic incompetence on the scale which makes the global 2007 banking crisis look like a drunken nights stag doo spend on credit cards in comparison.

However this is not about the Conservative vs Labour it's not about Capitalism vs Socialism, its not even about left vs right.

I do agree with you that the political involvement of the EU will make the more nasty Tory polices more difficult to introduce, this is a good thing. However this is a real poor reason to remain don't you think, don't you believe we should actually get what we vote for? Look I want a socialist Labour government in charge of a Great Britain free of EU political rule, I want to enpower the people of Great Britain not limit there power.

Student website, with lots of educated/intellectual types, wants to remain ...

I trust their opinion over a bin man's or the butcher's.

Yes. But I also believe in making society good for the good of society. People voted for Trump. Are they getting what they voted for in that do you think American society is better for having Trump? I think the thing that has been forgotten in this clamour to allow everyone to have their say and see it through is that good governance actually sees politicians make unpopular decisions for the greater good. Brexit is going to be a disaster in just about every way imaginable. It has rendered our government and parliament useless, fractured and split parties and divided the country. This is precisely what a parliamentary system of governance was set up to avoid. And the EU is no different. Good stuff comes out of Europe because getting bad stuff through is really hard hence we all benefit even if we didn't endorse it outright. The reason Britain is so great is because we have that stable governance and a sound legal system. Allowing "the will of the people" and populism will only help undermine all that and weaken us as a country on the world stage.

It's opinions like this that make me chuckle the most. Can you not see how ridiculous you sound? How prejudiced and naive you sound that somehow you feel your opinion is more valuable because of a peice of paper, you may or not get at the end of your course, you actually think this makes you superior and gives tmyou the right to dismiss and belittle the opinion of people with greater life experiences and in many cases skills than yourself.

I'm getting tired of this Brexit carnage quite frankly and this country needs political and economic stability. It's a shame that Grieve, Cooper and Reeves' amendments are voted down. The government and the PM are clearly ignoring how they can't renegotiate the Withdrawal Agreement as the EU said they will not reopen negotiations on this and they're running down the clock and rallying around the PM's botched Brexit deal.

Certainly... Spelmen-Dromey amendment is the last one that will explicitly rule out no-Brexit.

I think you are looking at the EU with Rose coloured glasses and looking at your own country through the bowl of the toilet, neither vision is giving your the reality of the situation in my opinion.

Brexit will not be defined as the Tories or what happens in the next few years, I voted leave for the greater good of my children. If I had voted for myself I'd of voted remain.

BTW do you know it was the Tories that took us into the EEC and Labour whom was against it in the 70's did they teach you that in politics class or does that not fit in with the message the education industry wants to push?

Anyway tit for tat aside you cannot actually mean that you belive in dictorship?

I studied EU law on my LLB. Extradition and MLA, and international trade on my LLM. My education is directly in the areas relevant to Brexit, specifically to those mentioned in threads like these and discussions labourers have in the pubs with their mates. There are some well-read people in menial work (many of them graduates), but most people in said work do not have a background in the technical areas under discussion. All they can do is guess; or repeat the arguments made by journalists (many of whom have no background in these areas, either). Education wins.

Also, I am arrogant. Saying "BUT WHAT YOU JUST SAID IS ARROGANT" does not change my perspective one bit.

No not at all, by the way your words read the same in capitals and lower case, I thought your education would of taught you that

Joking aside, I am not arrogant nothing I said is, now I'll explain why. I at no point ever said that the option of the elderly or any other group was worth more than yours, its you that is making these condensending remarks based on your education alone. Furthermore you have done little to ulitise your education and what you believe to be superior knowledge, all you do is quote it and put other down and belittle their opinions without knowing anything about them.

That's unfortunately is not the way educated intelligent people conduct themselves, you could choose to use to education to treach others and maybe share it with people and change their minds, but you don't I wonder why?

My education would of, or might I say could of, if I'd spent more time listening at school.

I never called you arrogant and I do share the wisdom, Mr New User.
