Do centromeres attach to spindle fibres in prophase or metaphase? One textbook says prophase, the other says metaphase - I don't know which to believe!

Metaphase

In prophase the chromosomes condense and become visible

In Metaphase the chromosomes line up on the equator of the cell and spindle fibres extend from the centrioles to attach to the centromeres

Metaphase

In prophase the chromosomes condense and become visible

In Metaphase the chromosomes line up on the equator of the cell and spindle fibres extend from the centrioles to attach to the centromeres

Just to add onto that, the centromeres also move to polar (opposite) ends of the cell in prophase. Spindle fibres release and attach in anaphase.
