Masters Loan Applications

When will the application scheme open for Masters courses, please? I need to also apply for DSA and therefore want to apply as early as possible, as I know how long it can take to get things in place.
Hi

No exact date yet but it will be in the summer.

Hi there,

Can you confirm what kind of Masters course you will be studying?

Thanks, Andy

Hi Andy,

It’ll be a 1 Year Full time MSc in International Development at a UK university.

Thanks.
Hi there,

We don't have a date yet for the Postgraduate Master's Loan applications, normally this would open in June. The course must be a Postgraduate Master's level 7 qualification to be eligible for finance, keep checking our social media channels for further updates. Thanks, Claire

Hi,

But that leaves it extremely late to get things in place for my DSA! I need a study support worker as well as specialist equipment :-(
Is there a way of applying for DSA and submitting my evidence before this date, so I can get things moving with the specialist providers? I cannot start term without the support in place.
Thanks.

Hi there,

You can apply for DSA now on the DSA1 full application found here http://ow.ly/Gb5m30nQXvx, then apply for Postgraduate Master's Loan when the application opens.

Thanks,
Claire

Thanks Claire - that's really helpful. Can I still apply online for Postgrad. Master's Loan when it opens?

On the gov.uk guide ‘Help if you’re a student with a learning difficulty, health problem or disability”, under How to apply for full-time students” it says:

”You cannot apply for student finance online once you’ve applied for DSAs”.

What does this apply to, please?

My situation is that that I am curr. in my final year of an undergraduate degree. I have taken out student loans and received DSA each year thus far.
I intend to progress onto a 1 year MSc next year. I have read that I can apply for the Masters Loan via my current SFE account. Is this the case?
However, I was concerned about the time it takes to get support in place, from initial application time.
Am I correct in thinking I need to complete a new application form for DSA for my Masters course?
If I do this now, to hopefully get things underway, will I then be able to apply for my Masters Loan via my SFE account?

Sorry - I realise Iit would have been simpler to state this at the beginning but I’ve only found this info out as I’ve gone along :-(

Many thanks.

Hi,

Can you confirm your full course details first of all? We need to check your course is on the database to allow you to apply for DSA at the moment.

As advised by Claire, you can still apply for your Postgraduate Loan and you apply for DSA on the link she provided you already.

Thanks, Chanel

I contacted the university and this is their response:
“The PG Loans are not yet open for application as we have not been allowed to update the course database with the Student Loans Company (SLC). Unfortunately, it is not clear when this will be available as they rely on the government giving the go ahead. Once the course database is updated they normally allow applicants to apply for the PG Loans from Late May/early June onwards.”

So, the university is telling me that they CANNOT add the MSc to the SFE database because the system doesn’t allow it yet, and you said I can’t submit my DSA form for consideration because the course has not been put on the database by my university.

Please can someone from SFE advise me how I am meant to proceed?
Is there seriously no way of submitting my application and being assessed before June for my DSA??

Hi,

We'd recommend that you check this with the DSA Team - you can e-mail them directly at: [email protected]

Warm regards,
Graeme
