Maintenance loan doesn't cover rent

I've been going through the process of applying for an income based maintenance loan, but by using the govt calculator can tell that my maintenance loan itself will be 2k below my rent (rent being 6800 and my loan being 4900 at best). My family can't afford to pay that towards it because my parents have more kids to feed and pay for. I can't live at home because of the distance to my uni and even if I try to find housing elsewhere my course is inner city Bristol and so the rent isn't likely to get any cheaper (not to mention id feel like Super lost living away from the accommodation) Is there anything I can do to apply for a higher loan? Would b nice to like,,,,,, Not Die of stress atm

EDIT: I also can't work while I'm studying bc of Depression and generally bad mental health which is real fun and dandy so that doesn't help here.

You need to apply. The calculator isn’t a perfect prediction - you may well be awarded slightly more once your siblings are taken into account.

Once your loan is assessed though there’s no additional loans. Your university might offer some support as bursaries but really your options are to either reduce your costs (that’s a very expensive rent even for central Bristol) or to supplement your income through working.

Unfortunately if your parents earn a higher amount you'll get a smaller loan and that's just the system. It sucks, but hey ho. Get a job over summer and work as much as you can to save, get a job whilst at uni as well, and sell any of your things you don't really need or want to earn some extra money. Make sure you budget well and only buy things you really need.
£6800 on rent is exorbitant. See if there are cheaper accomodation options

Are you studying with Bristol or UWE or a private provider?
£6800 for Bristol? That's more than I paid for Zone 1 in London.
If that's really the cheapest rent you can get, and your parents can't contribute/you can't get any assistance from the university, then you'll probably need to take a gap year and save up.

I've had a job for a year and a half, can't get one while at uni because of my mental health (so I am considering applying for a disability loan though I'm not sure about that so if anybody has any advice id rlly appreciate that). Been and done the selling things thing but it turns out when the only things you have that you can sell are like, old girls aloud cds nobody is gonna pay much for them lmaooo 😂😂

Hello,

Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) is a grant, which supports students who have disability that affects their ability to study.

Support, which may be available based on having a needs assessment:

Specialist Equipment Allowance - used to provide equipment needed to undertake a course on an equal basis to other students
Non Medical Helpers Allowance - provides expenditure on helpers such as readers, British Sign Language Interpreters, specialist study skills tuition, specialist mentor, etc
General Allowance Claim - costs in connection with their studies due to a reason relating to their disability (eg photocopying & printing)
Travel Allowance - to help with any extra travel costs they may have to pay to attend their University, College, Placement or Study Abroad because of their disability

DSA doesn’t provide any physical monies.

Thanks, Lynsey.

Hi there, Have you applied to be assessed based on the household income? Has your sponsor(s) provided their financial information in support of your application? Thanks, Karen
