Hello!
I've also applied to the Economist Mainstream Scheme and have just heard back today as well to book a day to attend the assessment centre.
This is the first assessment centre that I have been accepted for, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to prepare.

Great to hear from someone else who's applied  As far as preparations I think I will just be going over my A Level and first year economic notes (mainly focusing on the fundamentals ). What date are you looking to book and are your options all 9.45 starts in central london as well?

That sounds like a good idea! Do you know much about what the day will involve? Do you think we’ll hear more details nearer the time?
I’ve picked Thursday 16th May as that works best for me. Have you decided yet?
Yes all the dates available were from 9:45 to 17:00 in London.

From what I understand we will get a report/essay topic to write a few weeks before the assessment centre. On the day of the assessment centre we will basically have to rewrite this essay from memory in 30 minutes (thus essentially a memory exercise) after that (and after a break) we will have to present the "essay/topic" for 10 minutes in layman terms to normally 2/3 examiners (1 which consists of an assistant economist and a reserach economist). Straight after the presentation they will ask questions about the topic and general economic questions and finally they will ask you to specify a "specialist" topic in economics in which they can ask you questions about - they ask that the topic not be too narrow ( i.e. solow model of devlopment) but yet not too broad (i.e. Macroeconomics).

TLDR
1)Regurgitate in writing essay topic - 30 minutes
2)Break - given time to prepare for presentation
3)Present your essay topic without using economic jargon - 10 minutes
4)Questions on essay topic + General economics - around 20 minutes
5) Specialist topic - around 20 minutes
3-5 all done in 1 go and takes up like an Hour or so from what I heard

Hi,
I was wondering if you've received Any more info/contact from GES since you've booked your EAC...I haven't and I've booked mine for the 14th
Hi I have also heard back and picked 8th May for the EAC. I'm abit worried that they haven't sent any email yet with details on what to expect on the day. i think it will be good idea to create a group chat so we can share ideas or help each other with preparations

I'm up for this. When you say you've heard back is it just the initial email saying you're application is successful and you need to book an assessment date? That's the last official contact I've had from them.

Hello, I was going to ask you the same question! I haven’t heard anything from them recently, the last email being a reminder to pick a date. Hopefully we should hear something soon, otherwise I’ll give it a few more days and then email them to ask for an update.

Hi there can someone add me to then chat as well? Or post the group chat link here if possible?

I got the email regarding the EAC yesterday as well. Anyone going on 17th of May?
I did my EAC on this Wednesday afternoon, anyone here heard back already or know how many days do they normally take to give out results?
I did mine on Tuesday and emailed them today asking when we would hear back , they replied to me saying ‘we will hear back next week’

I wasn’t really sure how it went! I feel like I was on the border with showing the competencies they were looking for so that’s why I want to find out! I think I might not have got it though because a couple of things they asked me about my specialist topic in the interview I wasn’t sure about. You?

I feel the same, they did ask me few questions on the presentation which i struggled to answer. Only task I felt little confident on was the short answer questions. I wish they told us the results straightway rather than having to wait...

Hey! I got an email on Monday saying I passed EAC (so surprised but really happy!) and we would get postings in the next 2 weeks ish. Anyone else in the same boat?
