Is this a good way to raise awareness of the current environmental issues.

Police are seeking help from extra officers after the number of arrests made during almost a week of climate change protests reached 715.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said that so far 28 people have been charged following disruption at Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Waterloo Bridge, and Parliament Square.
In a statement, the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) said the Met had requested help from more than 200 officers from forces around southeast England

I'm glad we live in a country where people can do this but if arrested they should charge and fine them or this will be an ongoing thing every week..

You're glad to live in a country where people can do this?! I think it's absolutely nuts to allow people to go out disrupting public life the way they do, all in pursuit of what? Zero-emissions within a few years, all this treated as if there were any sense of realism to any of it. The world has gone crazy, Democracy is dying on its feet, the lunatics are roaming the streets, we don't know what a man or woman is anymore... nuts.
in China you get crushed by tanks if you do this.

If only they could break through the traffic jams these attention-seekers cause and we indulge, in our western decadent ways...

These people are mentally ill, fining/jail them is not the correct way to deal with them.
Today’s idea by them is ridiculous. Lets stop people using the an alternative means of transport to the car, that will be a good thing to do! Morons.
Their goal is to get arrested so they are achieving that at least.

In the meantime, China and the rest of the world are keeping their kids in classrooms and slapping them round the head if they start throwing tantrums instead of learning something real and that is why the West will soon be left for dead by the rest of the world. We'll be no match for anyone with our policies of dumbing down and turning our youth into pitiful vessels of emotion with no understanding of anything their handlers don't want them to understand. They are the only ones gaining from this, the ones whose existences depend on obliterating reason and replacing it with something else.

Why not go picket the Chinese embassy, they are causing a lot more damage to the environment than Theresa May? Nah, that would be too reasonable. Load of silly bull, all this.

I do wonder whether the Church of Climatology will take the West into neo-dark age.

The Extinction Rebellion protest isn't students :facepalm2:

You are the only one that has been brainwashed here
Their goal is to cause as much disruption as possible, in order to get the government to:
1: make the government admit we’re in serious danger due to climate change and our emissions

2: perform emergency action akin to the 2008 financial crisis in order to cut emissions down to 0 by 2025

3: set up a citizens assembly on climate change.

It's very, very bold and is on some levels a potential precursor to outright eco-terrorism. However, while they certainly have the attention of government, they don't have the support of the government and likely don't have the support of the populace in order to force through change. Going to be honest, don't see how much will come about this sadly.

Hopefully things will change but I can't see how it'll happen.

Yeah, sure. Whatever you say, you're just one of them and therefore only worth of attention up to a point.

Look at the picture from the protests, they are a bunch of hippies.

"One of them"? One of what exactly?
They are just as bad as political protesters, who cares about climate change honestly people need to do work

One of the nice, prejudiced categories they lump people into, clearly.

Lawful protest is all very well but when it puts people's small businesses under threat because some people want to be selfish and push their views on everyone else - then it goes too far. They would get more attention if they actually did some good by clearing up plastic litter all day from wildlife habitats and then dumping it on govt ministers homes or the Homes of the CEO's of the big polluting companies. And as for the protesters on the news today - that majority seemed to be students and non-workers from Sussex and Surrey who's mater's and pater's along with their offspring are probably driving the biggest gas guzzling cars and taking the longest most frequent polluting flights every year!!!!
The alarmists of 'Extinction Rebellion'- current secular incarnation of the apocalyptic prophets of doom, known by their eternal slogan "the end of the world is nigh".
An exhibitionist bunch of jerks desperate to cause mass disruption, get arrested by the dozens and attract maximum publicity.
Blocking trains, roads and Jeremy Corbyn's doorway/garden path.
Even he doesn't deserve to be obstructed from accessing the home he owns and he lives in.

Don't you recognise even from an economic and political standpoint that climate change will dramatically change the way companies operate? Already pushing costs up for many supply chains reliant on natural resources etc..

Honestly, most of the replies to this thread seem to show sneering contempt for the "hippies", who want to cause "mass disruption". And while the mass disruption is true, it's true of LITERALLY EVERY PROTEST EVER. You think Yellow Vests, both in France and the UK, aren't trying to cause disruption? They're doing it for attention, yes, but not for themselves - FOR THEIR CAUSE. So do yourself a favour, do the earth a favour and do future generations and pay attention to what they are saying rather than dismiss them outright because the earth cannot sustain us as we currently are. We do need radical change in order to survive, and while the disruption is annoying, it's the best way to get attention on this issue.

Its also the best way to get people against your cause.
