Hi,
I have applied to go to Plymouth Uni and Hull Uni next year and just wondered has anybody got anything to say about either of their LGBTQ+ nightlife as I am struggling to find stuff online?
Thanks

Hi @nuala2404,

I'm really excited for you to start uni! How are you feeling about it?

In Plymouth, we do have an LGBTQ+ scene. The most popular place would probably be OMG Plymouth, a nightclub on the Barbican which is a specialist gay venue. 'OMG are the UK's busiest and biggest gay venues, with state-of-the-art sound & lighting systems, buzzing atmosphere and great pricing.' Here you can find plenty of events, such as drag queen appearances. Vanessa Vanjie Mateo from Season 11 of RuPaul's Drag Race is making an appearance on Sunday! (I'm excited)

We also have bars like 'The Swallow', an LGBTQ+ venue with over 25 years of history which is located (basically) between the city centre and the Barbican.

UPSU (University of Plymouth Students' Union) has an LGBT+ society, 'dedicated to supporting and representing students who are part of the LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and all other identities) community.' They host weekly socials (drinking and non-drinking), host regular awareness events and campaigns, and host the annual LGBT+ Pride on Campus. 'The events have been a huge success with charities, market stalls, local music acts and headliners such as Lucy Spraggan and Sean Miley Moore! Pride on Campus 2018 was our biggest success to date with an amazing drag and queerlesque show in the evening bringing everyone together!' Here is their Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/UP.LGBT/.

There is also the annual Plymouth Pride event which usually runs in the summer. 'Pride in Plymouth' have a variety of activities, such as 'Lesbian Voices of Plymouth Past & Present', 'eXpresso Yourself Bi-Weekly Social', 'Hate Crime Reporting and Support', and the 'LGBT Community Archive'. Their Facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/prideinplymouth/.

Overall, I would say there is a strong community spirit for LGBTQ+ people in Plymouth. I hope this is helpful - please let me know if you have any other questions!
