Just wondering if it is necessary if I want to achieve a band 6 in the AQA GCSE exam

All essays need an introduction. If you just jump into it the reader will be confused.

Just keep the introduction short, and relevant to the question. A good introduction will tell the examiner how you are going to answer the question. A bad introduction will list irrelevant facts. For example, for a question about Eric a bad introduction would be ''An Inspector Calls was written in 1945 by J B Priestley. It is about a family called the Birlings who are...'
