Creeped out by some of the likes I get on OKCupid

I decided to sign up to OKCupid on Monday as I need to start making an effort to find a partner.

I’ve now got around 100 likes, but I’m finding that a some of those likes come from really creepy looking men. I was wondering if this is something that women commonly find?

It creeps me out and I wonder if it’s a reflection of me or whether it’s a common trend...

Not a woman but that site is dodgy according to my female friends so stay away
Yeah, it's quite common for women. I'm a guy, and I never get likes from anyone local. I live in London and my likes tend to mostly be from (I'll be honest, fat) women in the Philippines and Indonesia (though I don't get any messages).

Great. Thanks for letting me know. Are there any sites that you would recommend?

You're going to find the same on pretty much every dating site going.

Just because you get a like doesn't mean you're obliged to do anything.

This is true in varying degrees of all such sites that don't individually screen their users' communications—which is virtually all of them. Either join Bumble and start making the first move, or expect to be reflexively 'swiping left' in your sleep for the foreseeable future.

Wow

you are actually so far up your own backside that you are actually making a massive fuss about their behavior, which is appropriate behavior [given that it's on a dating site] just because you don't like the look of them

seriously

shame on you

I don’t see why you are annoyed. I’m guessing you’re the type who will give girls likes, even if you have nothing in common with them...

No I don't give girls likes actually i'm not that type at all.

I made my post because there are far too many girls like yourself taking the piss these days.

It's a dating site.
If the website owner built in a like feature take up your issue with them. The guys are using the site the way it is intended. Just because the guy doesn't look like Channing Tatum no need to brand him "creepy" just for sending a like. I can understand if he sent a dic pick or something but they are sending likes on a dating site.

Not everyone who shows interest in you on dating sites is going to be your cup of tea.
Move on and stop putting other people down unnecessarily.

Imagine if you sent a like to a guy you liked on there and he was all like "this creepy looking girl sent me a like errrgh"

Yep -- you'd be surprised at the things you learn using these sorts of apps. As a man of Indian origin, I was pretty shocked at the number of women putting the phrase 'no Indians' or essentially saying words to the effect of 'Indian = block' in their description though (and I remember reading some article which suggested Indian men were the least desirable according to the data collected from online dating apps). I wonder if these women receive a disproportionate number of perverted messages from Indian men or if it's due to some other reason.

Yes. Go for the more classy dating websites; not ones like Tinder or Ok Cupid and learn how to block messages from the people.
If you don’t like the men, please don’t reply. I used to be on dating sites but came off them as it traumatised me. All of them turned out to be liars. I met two and neither of them had sent recent photos. And their personalities? Oh my dear. My son and I just spent time laughing at them. So don’t worry, you’re not unusual at all, just discerning. Don’t let anyone pressure you into doing anything you don’t want to. And just stay safe, please. Xx

Yes true. But there is hope...... I met my amazing partner through a dating website!
I am so very pleased for you, mgi, but it was not for me. Many men viewed my photo but did not like my personality

Temper, temper.
OP was only questioning whether her experience is a reflection of her personally, a trend of online dating or something most widely connected to some sites.
The okcupid site is notorious for problems with creeps of both genders, sockpuppet accounts setup to inflate member numbers and real users trying scams.
Many uk based matchmakers and specialist introductions services warn their members to steer clear of okc and the usa loveyouraccent site.

There is a big difference between saying someone "looks creepy" and bemoaning a lack of users that are hollywood lookalikes.
From personal experience looking creepy includes anyone (males & females): wearing t-shirts with abusive/vicious derogatory rhetoric, smug photos taken at edl or britain first rallies, photos of clothing/items sold at the online kkk store and photos taken with neo nazi memorabilia in the background.
I'm not a fan of Channing Tatum or any of the reality tv stars.
Yes they do make up fake profiles and I was a victim of this, to make you part with your money. Also some scammers tried it on with me, but failed to extract money from me. Apparently 13 dating sites are owned by the same person so there will be little variation between them. Same sort of guys on each one. The sites I was on were match.com and classic fm romance. Look on reviews and you’ll see that each one has only one star rating. Many are angry users who can’t get their money back. OP’s experience is certainly not unusual and please don’t take it personally. It’s just it can dent your confidence and make you feel worthless
