A poll with more specific options coming. Now I'm genuinely curious. Not asking about any meal before 3pm or after 8pm.


Theory:


Up north/and some parts of the midlands, we were more working class and got home irregularly from manual labour, and had our first meal of the day besides breakfast/brekky, at night or 6pm-8pm. Because it was our first meal of the day despite the time it was eaten, we called it tea. Supper is seen as a luxury and therefore we dont use the term, and dinner is more so for lunch which is also a casual dinner, and therefore dont use the term because we rarely had luxury or casual meals. If we did say dinner, it was for school or work lunch time at midday. :yy:

North East England (Newcastle, Northumberland, Sunderland, Durham, Stockton...)
North West England (Liverpool, Lancashire, Manchester, Cheshire, Blackpool...)
Yorkshire (Leeds, Bradford, Doncaster...)
East Midlands (Nottingham, Leics, Lincolnshire..)
West Midlands (Brum, Staffs, Black Country, Warwick...)

And the time you eat it, and if you grew up hearing tea. Cheers!!! That's really the purpose of the thread!

ok and vote in the poll and which region are u from..im not asking tea or dinner. im asking in relations to ur region. it's more a cultural question than food question. for ur anonymity if u strangely dont want people to know ur region, then u can silently vote.
