University of Reading 2019 Offer Holders

Starting uni can be a very scary thought. I'm El and I currently hold an offer for the PGCE Secondary Science (Biology) at the University of Reading and I am hoping there are some others on here that hold offers to start at UoR in September. If you have an offer, answer the following questions and let's get to know each other!

Name?
Course applied for?
Conditional or unconditional offer?
Applied for accommodation? If so, where?

Hi El!

It's great to hear you've firmed Reading for September!
I'm Emma and I'm a 3rd Year Undergraduate Chemistry student here at Reading. I'm also planning to go on to do a PGCE Seconday Science course when I graduate next year (I'm on a 4 year course, so will start ITT Sept 2020)!
Starting Uni can be super scary, I remember how I felt before I got here. However, the Uni is really friendly and it's a nice place to be, so I settled really quickly.

I hope you get to meet lots of other trainees using TSR, but if you've got any questions about Reading Uni, campus, accommodation, anything really, feel free to ask and I'll be happy to help.

All the best,

Emma

Thank you! I'm super excited, I love the campus of Reading. It's so beautiful. I can't wait for September 😊
Hi ☺️ I also received an offer from Reading, and I am looking forward to hopefully studying Graphic Communication there soon! My first choice accommodation is Bridges, as it’s close to the Typography department. What about you ?

Hi,
Hopefully I might be able to answer any questions you may have as I'm currently a 1st Year Computer Science student at Reading but will be transferring to study Film & Television in September. I currently am staying in Stenton Halls.

Hello, I have a conditional offer to study business management with a placement year at the Whitenights Campus.
Hi, Congratulations to all of you on your places!

I am a current 2nd year Speech and Language Therapy student at the University of Reading, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about anything at all!

Hi! I've recently graduated from City, uni of London and will be starting work as an SLT in Reading (royal Berkshire hospital) in August.
Do you have any advice about accomodation (e.g. websites to use/areas to avoid)? I don't really know much about Reading!
I'm female, 21 and my budget is around £550 pcm.

Yes I've done so but I'm wondering is there any way to find people who are in a similar situation and link up? I would prefer to meet people first and then find a flat to move in together rather than moving in with strangers

Hi! depends on what you're looking for. quite? party life? catered? self catered? on campus? private?

I've applied for sherfield coz I wanted the quieter accommodation and I'm happy cooking for myself but refuse to share a bathroom

Hey! Definitely self catered and I'm the same with bathrooms aha. Would prefer a party life, probably a toss up at the moment of Benyon, St Georges and Sherfield. I suppose there are quiet areas and single gender areas in each so there would be areas where they aren't specifically quiet and mixed genders? Not against quiet areas but don't really want single genders. By the looks of it all the halls are on Whiteknights campus (?) which means a journey to London Road Campus regardless.

Hey,

The campus is full of great accommodation to suit a range of needs! Definitely worth checking the university accommodation page here is the link http://www.reading.ac.uk/ready-to-study/accommodation/university-accommodation.aspx

I’m terms of having your own bathroom, I was in Child’s for my first year which is a premium en-suite, and gives you the space to have quiet times but also socialise and experience the party side of university life. You can request a quiet area, although they aren’t guaranteed but I believe you can request it in any of the halls.

The London Road campus is only a short walk from the Park group accommodation. There is also a bus if you really wanted although I would say walking is easy.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply! Tossing up between Kendrick hall (for the ease of being so close to London Road) and Benyon, Sherfield and St Georges. Not sure what to go for.

Cheers
