The Student Room Group

why are people racist?

I just don't get how one group of people can think that they are superior to another because of the way that they look.
Unfortunately there is this thing called stupidity, and some people are just stupid

Because they usually have some kind of insecurity cloud hovering over themselves and don't know how to get rid of it without feeling the need to create insecurities for others.

I get that but why don't they eventually learn that they're wrong due to the views of society?

its sad
It’s all based on insecurity. Nobody would think a WHOLE group of people are inferior to them if they didn’t feel envy of that group. It’s easy to fall into racist mindsets when you have poor socialisation and poor control of your own mind. For example, on a documentary this white american guy joined the KKK because he didn’t get a job that was given to a black man.

I think it’s all down to ones own feeling of inferiority
I'm not racist but...
Cos people are ignorant fools unfortunately

Racism sometimes occurs when a bad thing is committed by an individual (usually a minority) and because the people who are being "racist" most likely have rarely, if ever had contact with said "minority" they assume that everyone is like that.

For example, the shocking, (mostly) Pakistani grooming gang scandal. This had Pakistanis, Indians and Bengalis involved who are all of brown skin. And a few close minded people then begin to think that every brown person is like that. (Theres over 5 million South Asians in the UK, I don't think were all groomers).

Then you can take the stereotype of Black people being thieves and robbers, people of all race/religion are thieves, however society (Mostly Media) has painted a picture into our minds to assume things.

Honestly the only way to beat having a racist mentality is going out and making friends with people from all walks of life, if you ever go to a racist person they have probably never even had a real conversation with the minority they hate, or may have had a bad experience with one and then put every other person who happens to be white/black/brown in the same bag (Yes white people can also be discriminated against, despite what some people on here think)

Personally, being a brown guy myself i've never been the subject of racial abuse, apart from when you go to posh areas and you get a few people staring at you, thats it.

Talk to them yourself and make your own mind up whether you think they are racist.

As a result of evolution throughout our tribal history, we’re naturally designed to be more trusting of those who are more like us, and more suspicious of those who are not.

It’s the same reason why a group of football hooligans wearing blue shirts may express animosity towards another group wearing red shirts, even though none of them actually know each other.
There racists because all you do is talk about it. Stop talking about racism then there isn't racism.
