I lost £500 gambling and feel so unhappy :( :( :(

I bet £500 on a horse today that I thought was a dead cert. It was a one-off and once it had won I wouldn't have gambled again. It was actually winning for most of the race and I thought it won at first and was so happy, but it turned out another horse overtook it just before then end...so I lost. I feel as though this is so much money, it took me so much time to earn it and it pays for so much, e.g. a year at the gym, several months car insurance, a meal out every week for a year, a holiday, etc. I don't know how I can possibly get over this loss. I feel really depressed and should I borrow another £500 and gamble it to at least win back what I lost? But then if that loses I'll be in an even worse position? Should I quite my course so that I can focus on working to earn back my losses? Should I tell my family and friends? Should I beg the betting company for the money back? PLEASE HELP ME DAMNIT!!! I don't have much money :frown:

Could I do some kind of crowdfunding? Perhaps 1000 forum members could each donate 50p to make things ok as 50p is nothing.

Dont bet what you cant afford to lose.
If it was genuinely a one off then close down your account and do not chase losses as you will end up even worse off.
Learn from the lesson and focus on your studies.

Why tell family and friends? Unless you want help?
The betting company wont be interested and nor should they be.
Ofc you shouldnt quite your course.
Your choice if you want to do extra hours.
Start making economies.

Learn the lesson now, do not get into a cycle of trying to get your money back because you’ll likely lose it again and be in a worse position. ‘The house always wins’ or else gambling wouldn’t be a profitable business. Id steer clear of gambling. Learn from your mistake, and don’t get deeper in the hole. Also the company will not give you your money back.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling with money but gambling is not the answer.
Gambling is risky, mostly always a no-no
you took a big L

LMAO... perhaps consult gambleaware or something because you should've only gambled on money you have, not what you've borrowed

This has to be a joke. You screw yourself over by losing £500, and expect us to bail you out. Have a day off mate.

You are either trolling us or behaving like a child .
If you chase your losses you will end up losing more money and being more miserable. If that is what you want go for it.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself, realise you took a decision that didnt work out and learn from it.
How much do you want to lose? You obviously cant cope, so you are going to spiral.

If it stops you gambling (which you arent very good at) it could be the best £500 you ever spent.
Do you want creditors chasing you, do you want your parents to find out?

Wake up and start realising what situation you got yourself into. Talk to Gamcare.
If you want to carry on gambling that is your choice, but dont cry when you lose.
Congrats, you're a moron.
That highlights that it is a lot of money, which is depressing.

You only have yourself to blame. You should have learnt your lesson. As people have said cut your losses and move on, you aren’t getting that £500 back and if you think you are, you’re a moron.
Hey,

I'm only parroting what a few people have said above but thought I would reiterate something as I feel I should.

I used to work in a betting shop through uni and can tell you that the healthiest and best thing for you will be to accept that you lost that £500 pound and move on. More importantly it would be to learn your lesson from that and consider your fingers official burnt and never try to gamble again.

Bookies will always win in the end and I've seen so many people develop problems but just chasing their losses, it never works and leads to some serious problems in the future.

As an above poster has said you should contact a gambling help hotline as they are there to help you and not judge you.

As sad as it is, if you walked away now and learnt your lesson, you would be in such a better place than thousands and thousands of people in this country who have been dragged in with how addictive this stuff is and its ruined their lives.

It sucks and its rough, but at this moment in time you haven't ruined your life, don't let gambling companies take any more of you.

Dude GTFO

If you had won, would YOU have distributed your winnings to 1000 forum members? .. nah

YOU Gambled, YOU lost, so it's time to deal with the consequences.

I suggest you just chalk it up to one of life lessons and never set foot in a bookies again.

You've fallen into the gamble cycle; once you start, you can't stop. Sounds like you're very tempt on continuing, so I would advise you seek advice on how to get out of it, talk to specialists who professionalise in this field.

Borrowing £500 to then most likely lose is ridiculous, and the betting company couldn't care less about their customers if they lose, after all, where will their profits come from?

And having the audacity to ask us for money, which you lost, is beyond me.
