GCSEs are ridiculous

I can't believe we're expected to know the content for around 22 exams which most likely are never looked at again after A levels (or if ur sooooo smart and want to go to Oxford, but good for you) but for GCSEs are stressing me up so much and really there not that useful. Anyone feeling the same?

I agree with you. Currently doing my GCSEs with those exact thoughts occasionally going through my head.

Think of them as building blocks of knowledge. And yes, you will need all those pieces of Lego in university and beyond.
I genuinely think that all the time - because, well - they are. The only useful exams as a student would be A-levels and university exams. But the only way to actually get to do those useful exams - is through good grades in the GCSE exams.Unfortunately - gcses do have a big impact of our lives even though I still think they’re useless for the most part.

Yeah, I get that part, but I think 22 exams is a bit much just to get us into A levels. Then again it depends on what subjects you want to do. Uhhh I want them to be over sooooo much. I feel like after now doing half of them my last bit of motivation has been dragged and sucked right out of my soul and all I want to do is listen to music, sleep, not stress, watch films.......

Yeah, they are stupid and have made my life so f***ked up. I hate them and I have lost my actual life. Uhhh all my mind is telling me to do is to revise and so I sit with a book open in front of me even when I am not revising. Life just sucks.

Come on guys I know it is tough. But this is where the real winners shine. The ones who can push past the agony and restless nights to succeed. We're in the endgame now. It will all be over soon.

That’s how I like to think of it as well! 2 weeks - one exam at a time - and then it’s over

The Scottish system seems to be better suited for people, Nat 5’s, Highers then uni/college or Advanced Highers.

I agree. I did maths last year and as a mature student I can safely say an average person will not use 85% of it. The maths exams were totally catered for those going onto university. The level of knowledge was ridiculous for a general certificate in education, and most of it belonged in a specialised A level.

Remember the GCSEs are controlled by the employers, they dictate the level of difficulty. Unfortunately before the 9-1 system, the employers complained that school leavers with high grades didn't know the simple every day stuff, thus the exams were made harder. Personally, I think they have gone too much the other way, being harder then need be.
Yep. And some subjects like GCSE Geography have far too many case studies; GCSE History is insanely full of content. Only stuff I will ever use will be science & maths.
preah, sis
They are more useful than you think, you need to appreciate them. Dont stick your nose up at them bc you cant be bothered to work for them

So actually I just finished my Dutch A level equivalent exams, and I felt the exact same way during exams. I planned this whole ‘to do detox’ where I would do absolutely nothing until I got very bored after exams. And to be honest I had enough after one day of it. So I’d recommend you pretend your exams are over for one afternoon, chill out and then hopefully regain some motivation. Perhaps don’t go on your phone because that’s addicting and won’t get you bored within a day but watch movies or read books. And then once you start feeling bored get back to work:smile:
