The Edinburgh Fringe 2019 Thread
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival Starts on 2nd August I'll soon be off up to Scotty land once again to experience the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Will anybody else be making a trip?
What are you most looking forward to seeing?
Do you having some things you want to see already, or are you keeping an open mind?

I'll be posting some of my recommendations later based on excellent theatre companies I saw last year, but I'm excited to see more this year too.

Okay! So here are my recommendations this year. Some I've seen before and love, others I reckon just sound cool. I've been to the Fringe the past three years in a row, so I'm like... I really love it. 
And will be going this year as well. My favourites are circus, so my picks are pretty geared that way.
Guru Dudu Silent Disco Walking Tours - walking tour/party - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/guru-dudu-s-silent-disco-walking-tours
I did one of these in Brighton last year, and it was seriously the most fun I'd had in ages. Like that kind of giddy happy when you were a kid. You literally walk around the streets dancing and singing to the music in your headphones. So. Much. Fun. This one *always* sells out, so book quick if you want to do it!

I saw a performance by this same company last week called 'Shift' and it was amazing. Highly recommend their work.
Circa: Humans - Circus/physical theatre - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/circa-humans
This is an Australia troupe who I love. I did a little circus training with them back home. Very popular company, and make some beautiful theatre.
30 Minute Musicals Roulette - musical/audience choice - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/30-minute-musicals-roulette
I have no idea what this is, but sounds like an absolute riot.
David O'Doherty - comedy - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/david-o-doherty-ultrasound
I've seen this comedian before, and he's good and funny.
Massaoke Mixtape - party - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/massaoke-mixtape
I mean... it's mass karaoke. What more do you want?
Great way to finish a Fringe evening, singing your lungs out and dancing about. Such fun.

Ohhh The Half Price Hut!
I forgot to say that. After the first week of the festival, there's a place called the half price hut just by Princes St (near the ferris wheel). They release tickets for various shows - sometimes limited ones for bigger shows, or lots of tickets for smaller/less successful shows. You can find some real gold there! And if you want to see lots of shows, this is a bit more of a budget-friendly way, plus very in the spirit of the fringe, by taking the opportunity to see stuff that might surprise you!

For someone who has never been before. What can you expect? Do you need to book up performances? Or are people just there for you to dive in and out of?

you can book performances in advance but usually we just go into town and have a look at what's on that day and then just buy tickets when we're up there at one of the box offices

****-faced Shakespeare - Ever wondered what Shakespeare would be like drunk? A group of classically trained actors perform Macbeth with one cast member absolutely sozzled. It's only an hour so will be worthwhile even if you're not a Shakespeare fan. Tickets - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/****-faced-shakespeare-macbeth
Letter To Alice - This company last year delivered a phenomenal musical "Your Alice" with incredible costumes and production values. Really really impressive demonstration of what can be done in one hour. The story is connected to Alice in Wonderland, in case you hadn't realised, fantastic use of an afternoon. Hangnail - New writing from a friend of mine, got to plug my Keele friends.
Story of a feminist rock band and their varied relationship with men. Commenting on Weinstein culture in the music industry. Tickets - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/hangnail
You and I - From the writers of Smash hit new musical "Buried", which was a fringe success over the last two years, it's worth seeing You and I for original, innovative writing performed extremely well, including original music. Drowning - Has made a big splash on twitter this year, and has funded some other shows who have struggled to make enough money to get to Edinburgh. Pushing feminism, I'm certainly be going to see this one, and I hope it doesn't disappoint. Will report back here how it went. Tickets - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/drowning
