Resitting A level exams

Hi. I’m currently halfway through my A level exams and I don’t think I will meet my offer based on how terrible the exams went, I have paper 2 in a couple of days and I find it even more difficult than paper 1. I’m probably not going to meet my since I’ve been getting low Bs high Cs, sometimes Ds throughout the year despite being predicted an A. How does the process of resitting exams work? Would I have to retake any practical endorsements?

Same. I need AAB which is looking really unlikely right now. It probably sounds like I'm underestimating myself but I made so many mistakes in the paper that I don't even think I got a C, it's demotivated me to the point where I don't even want to revise for the other papers.

If you re-sit then you can carry forward your practical endorsement (or the NEA in any subject with NEA) and just re-sit the exams. To re-sit the exams you need to find an exam centre willing to accept you as a private candidate - your current school/college is likely to be the cheapest place if they will have you back, but not all do. Contact them by December - the entry deadline is mid February but if they wont have you back it can take a while to find a centre that will. You will have to pay the exam board fee (generally £90-£120 per A level) plus any charge they add for the admin and invigilation - this may be nothing for your former college but may well be £100-300 for a centre that specialises in private candidates.

I completely get what you're saying, I messed up so much and keep running out of time! What subjects do you take?

Just remember that what's done is done now and you can't change anything, I know it's difficult but try and focus on your next exams, you can only try your best!

Is it not possible to stay on at college for another year? I thought it was free if you enrolled before you turn 19

Chemistry will probably be the reason I don't meet my offer, I regret choosing it. I finished the paper and felt pretty good but then I looked on tsr and realised I didn't get any of the answers that others got. I'm finding biology pretty difficult at the moment too.

So damn expensive, I swear exam boards are making exams hard on purpose just so people will resit making the exam boards money.

The college doesn't get funding for you to redo the same thing so they'd be unlikely to let you stay to re-take - but you could try asking.

Ah ok. I know people that are doing a 3rd year of college because they've changed courses after year 1, but I don't know about option of retakes, I'll have to ask them

I feel the same way! I thought I was going to be so prepared for this year, but I have been cramming all my exams! The first two went absolutely well before half term and after it has just been an absolute shambles! I'm so disappointed in myself. Just see what you can do now and think about it later. Hope everything turns around
