Resitting A level exams

Hi. I’m currently halfway through my A level exams and I don’t think I will meet my offer based on how terrible the exams went, I have paper 2 in a couple of days and I find it even more difficult than paper 1. I’m probably not going to meet my since I’ve been getting low Bs high Cs, sometimes Ds throughout the year despite being predicted an A. How does the process of resitting exams work? Would I have to retake any practical endorsements?

Hi, I'm going through a similar situation at the moment, I have 2 papers left but I feel like I've messed up so badly on them that there's no saving my grades! I would love some advice too! What grades do you need to get into uni?
I too would like to know the process.
Same. I need AAB which is looking really unlikely right now. It probably sounds like I'm underestimating myself but I made so many mistakes in the paper that I don't even think I got a C, it's demotivated me to the point where I don't even want to revise for the other papers.

I completely get what you're saying, I messed up so much and keep running out of time! What subjects do you take?

Just remember that what's done is done now and you can't change anything, I know it's difficult but try and focus on your next exams, you can only try your best!

If you re-sit then you can carry forward your practical endorsement (or the NEA in any subject with NEA) and just re-sit the exams. To re-sit the exams you need to find an exam centre willing to accept you as a private candidate - your current school/college is likely to be the cheapest place if they will have you back, but not all do. Contact them by December - the entry deadline is mid February but if they wont have you back it can take a while to find a centre that will. You will have to pay the exam board fee (generally £90-£120 per A level) plus any charge they add for the admin and invigilation - this may be nothing for your former college but may well be £100-300 for a centre that specialises in private candidates.
Is it not possible to stay on at college for another year? I thought it was free if you enrolled before you turn 19

So damn expensive, I swear exam boards are making exams hard on purpose just so people will resit making the exam boards money.
I do bio, chem and psychology. What about you?
Chemistry will probably be the reason I don't meet my offer, I regret choosing it. I finished the paper and felt pretty good but then I looked on tsr and realised I didn't get any of the answers that others got. I'm finding biology pretty difficult at the moment too.

Would the exams be taken in May/June?

The college doesn't get funding for you to redo the same thing so they'd be unlikely to let you stay to re-take - but you could try asking.
Art, geography and sociology.
I completely get what your saying, I've come out of an exam feeling ok about it, look on here, and feel crap because I've misinterpreted the questions!

Most of them are non-profit making organisations. They make a loss on the less popular subjects which they fund by making money on the popular ones (the main GCSEs, A level Maths etc)
Ah ok. I know people that are doing a 3rd year of college because they've changed courses after year 1, but I don't know about option of retakes, I'll have to ask them

Hello

My initial advice is to forget about how your previous exams went and focus on doing well on the exams that you have left. In that way you are effectively investing your time, energy and thought on maximising your marks for the remaining exams and hopefully will cushion any blow from previous exams.

If it makes things any better I resat 6 A-level exams in Chemistry and Physics (3 exams for each subject) during my first year of university (studying pharmacology) in the summer of 2016. I found it quite challenging, but I managed to shift my grades from BCC to ABB whilst achieving a first at University. At most sixth form colleges you have the option to resit your exams as an external candidate. You just need to go into the exams office and request that you wish to resit some exams, by filling in the requires form(s) and paying the relevant fees. For me, I had to pay £25 per exam resit, plus a £25 administration fee. In total I paid £200 to resit those 6 exams. The resit exams will take place in May/June 2020 (as January exams unfortunately no longer exist). There is a deadline for when you can request to resit exams, but I am not sure when this is. For me it was in early December 2015.

What subjects are you taking? The new specification for the science subjects no longer have coursework counting towards the final mark. They are merely just pass or fail. So technically speaking you do not need to do those again. Your sixth form college should simply sign you off on those

All the best for your results and your remaining exams. If you need anymore advice then please do not hesitate to contact me  :h:
I feel the same way! I thought I was going to be so prepared for this year, but I have been cramming all my exams! The first two went absolutely well before half term and after it has just been an absolute shambles! I'm so disappointed in myself. Just see what you can do now and think about it later. Hope everything turns around

Yeah I completely get what you're saying! Thank you, same for you! Let's hope for low grade boundaries!

Fingers-crossed for this year, but if you do find yourself having to take a year to resit, NEC can help you focus the next 12 months' study and find those extra marks you are looking for. Yes, exams are May/June only, no separate resit session. We cover your three subjects with online courses and expert tutor help. And we can organise the exams and the endorsement paperwork. Check we do your specs, then if your results are a disappointment, get in touch in August.
