Can I apply to the university for pharmacology?

hi to all I would like to know if I can apply for the university without having A levels because I come from Italy and here I have a degree in economics and therefore I do not study science ,physics and chemical.....

Just to clarify, you already have a degree in economics and would like to come to the UK to study for another degree but don't have A-Levels as you're from Italy originally? This shouldn't be too much of a problem but the university you're thinking of applying to in question would need to know what you got in your qualifications equivalent to A-Levels. I recommend phoning up the admissions team for clarity on this.

yes I have already tried to contact the university and they told me that in this university chemistry is compulsory (which I do not have)So I wanted to ask if you know any university that would accept me without these parameters near Birmingham...

There might be some confusion as quite a few different things in Italy can be called "degrees"', "diplomas", "maturity"

as they have streamed (narrowly focussed) secondary schools

Liceo {classics, science, modern languages, human science, art etc}
Istituto tecnico {economics, technology}
Istituto professionale {vocational, practical courses}


and also many other systems, and the odd logical inconsistency, which make life here so rewarding

I'm not sure what university would accept you for pharamacology near Birmingham without chemistry. You can always Google a few universities to have a look at what subjects they require at an equivalent of A-Level.

Now I’m thinking of doing A levels and I’m 21 years old someone knows how to proceed...because once at a college I had tried but they told me that I could not because I passed 16 years😓

Sorry to hear about that. 6th forms/colleges here won't take anyone past 16-19 usually if you want to do A-Levels so you have to do them as a private candidate sadly. I'm not in the best position to advice on that but hopefully someone else will reply.

I'd suggest looking for courses with a foundation year (e.g. "BSc Pharmacology with Foundation"), as these are designed for students who haven't studied the relevant sciences in 6th form who want to change into that subject area. In such courses you'll study a preliminary "year 0" foundation year where you cover the required science background. These are quite common, so have a look at what's on offer; bear in mind some foundation courses are more "generalist" and can lead to multiple different degrees (e.g. I think Manchester has one which is just called "Life Sciences" or something and you choose your specialisation a little later).

Next point: consider somewhere like Aston University which is good, is near Birmingham, and has a Foundation course in science which can lead to an MPharm (you need to get a high score in the foundation year, could you do this?)

But the last question is maybe a problem, if you are just finishing your Maturitá, i.e. you will soon be leaving your secondary school/ liceo tecnico aziendale ( business orientation) , when are you thinking to study in UK? ( in UK nearly everyone applied for a UK university already by October 2018 or at last time by January 2019 , you apply about one year in advance in UK system)

It is common in many EU countries to apply once you know your exact school leaving score, but in UK things work a year in advance based upon guessed final scores, (approximately)

So you could apply early (via UCAS) for 2020 entry, or there might be some other way for 2019? (But I can’t think of one at the present)

We are having a friendly chat here, it is exactly the same chat that you will have when you find the college that you like, there will be some form filling!
It is interesting because of the cross cultural education systems, but it can work out.

All UK universities normally require application through the UCAS system, https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate
(at least for UK and EU/EEAS applications) and this is typically done one year in advance, so you can register now in 2019 and go to study in September 2020.
This UCAS situation is quite reasonable, based upon estimates/guesstimates of your results "next year", however it does require a very accurate history of your schooling, which country you were in and what results did you obtain, and some input is required to be made by your last school.
fees can be ±£9250 , which are often covered by a Student Loan, this is often available to EU students https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/student-loans-company

back to the UK universities, you can make a direct application, typically this is done by "international applicants" and can be done in this current academic year, BUT the fees can be much higher, and NOT covered by the Student Loan system (I'm always open to contrary information)

coming to my final two points, you could be lucky and use a very special day in UK university applications called "CLEARING & ADJUSTMENT DAY"
This year 2019, for the September 2019 entrance for the standard bachelor undergraduate course, the day is 15th August 2019. Everything is decided on this day, all the universities fill their 'empty' places That day is of course ferragosto in Italy, so no parties!

Point ONE
On this day (possibly starting informally a few weeks before this day, so say from July 15th 2019) you CAN apply without having a 2018/2019 UCAS application and a UCAS Track account. Once Clearing opens, you CAN apply directly to your chosen university. You will need to complete a form that a university MIGHT be able to send to you, called a Record of Prior Acceptance (RPA), when you accept your offer. You won't need to set up a UCAS account. You will deal entirely, independently with your chosen university by email and telephone, you will have to send copies of your educational certificates by email, and show the originals when you attend first time in September 2019. I'm sure that this would give you a great education, at the fee level for UK/EU and would likely be covered by the Student Loan.

Point TWO
The problem with CLEARING DAY , is that it is very difficult to predict which courses will or will not be offered by the universities. It is their day of sale, SALDO , tutto in venditá, where you can only choose what is on offer from a limited supply of choices. It is impossible to predict if you might get an offer for a Foundation Year for pharma. But you can try, so you must have a "Plan B' , a more generic choice of subject that you can choose if Pharma is unavailable. So in fifteen days time, start to telephone to UK universities "clearance hotline" and see how far you get, take notes, compile an Excel spreadsheet with names, courses and alternative courses, offers etc etc

I only found three universities in the general central UK that might offer foundation Pharmacology, (others such as Manchester also do, but that is North)
