Do I need to take tablets the doctor gave me?

I’ve been suffering with sever stomach pain for over 6 months now and the doctor gave me many different tablets which are supposed to ‘help’ but work for around a week and then stop helping. I have tried many different tablets and now I’m on 2 Lansoprazole a day and 10ml of liquid 4 times a day. I’m also taking 4 iron tablets daily so I’m taking 10 medications a day and I’m only 18. I’m so worried cause the doctors don’t know what’s going on and I’m taking so many tablets every single day. My mum says that I shouldn’t be taking them all as I’m young and already on so many tablets which aren’t really helping that much! Help what do I do???

Is your Mum a Doctor? Does your Mum know what's going on with your stomach? If that's a no and a no, then take the pills and see if your condition improves. The Doctors may not have made a firm diagnosis yet, but sure as heck your Mum doesn't know any better!

Your mum is right. Too much medication can destroy your kidney. However your doctor must be confused due to the different amount of medicene you’re getting. Maybe try going to someone who is specialised in the stomach area
Go back to the doctor with these concerns.

I’ve been told I have to wait around 16weeks to see a specialist and I still don’t have an appointment. Should I maybe stop the tablets and see if it helps? I know it sound ironic but the tablets don’t help much and I’m constantly in pain. My mum is not a doctor but I also kind of think I’m taking too much medications at this age and the worst thing is that their not helping

Firstly, I do not mean to offend you but unless your mum is a health professional, then she doesnt know what she is on about.

secondly, which medication are you on exactly? (you've said that your on 10 different medication but I only counter 3: Lansoprazole, Iron tablets and some undefined liquid (please elucidate which medication this is?)

3rdly, could you describe the stomach pain in more detail (is it sharp? dull? does it spread beyond the stomach? is it worse when eating, drinking, going toilet or lying down? Has there been any changes in your poo (is it more liquidy, is it darker / more red)? does it feel like there is a solid lump around your belly or inside your tummy? Have there been any changes in your diet (and how would you describe your diet? How much fluids do you drink?)

Sorry for all the questions but I am trying to see what can be done and if you should seek referral from a gastro specialist

You should not stop taking prescribed medication without consulting your doctor first. There can be side effects of doing this that can be harmful. Speak to your doctor about these concerns. You age does not matter. Someone in their 90s could be healthy enough to not need any medication, whereas a 10 year old could need a pill box. You can have numerous health issues regardless of age, so saying that you're "too young" to take so many pills is ridiculous. Yes, ideally, younger people would be healthier and not have issues but that's not the case. You're a bit unfortunate in that you have some issues requiring you to take lots of medication. Please do not stop taking prescribed medication just because you think you're taking too many or that they aren't helping. They may be doing things to you on the inside that you can't feel. Before you do anything, see your doctor and express these concerns. Take their advice, as they are the medical professionals.
Good. Then you can tell the doctor the full extent of your problems, that you feel it's too much and that you don't feel it's helping you. Health professionals usually know best.

couple of more questions: why are you taking iron and the liquid? did the stomach pains start around or after starting those 2 meds?how is your iron level?

tbh, unless you know what is wrong, what the other meds are being used for and you build a bigger picture, you cant stop taking medicines just for the sake of it

Am on 8 tablets a day, age doesnt mean anything unfortunately
You should prob keep taking them until at least speaking properly to doctors about yr concerns, if that means making an appointment then do that. Stop trying to estimate how many medications an 18 year old should be on.
That’s not what I was implying. If he/she notices the medicene aren’t doing anything then there is no point constantly feeding it to the body as you’ll just end up damaging it. You can’t take medicene for the sake of taking medicene

I have seen 82 year olds take only 1 tablet a day and have seen 7 year olds who need to take medication over 10 times a day.

I supposedly have anemia due to my ‘heavy periods’ which for me are not at all heavy as I’m only going over a few pad a month which is considered light.
I’m taking Peptac liquid as well as other tablets mentioned before.
I’m contacting the doctor pretty much on a weekly basis due to my symptoms and they even recommended going to ER with my symptoms as they were that bad. I’ve been referred to a specialist but the 16 week wait before they contact me is long and the problem is affecting my everyday functions including eating and sleeping. Have no idea what to do as the doctor just says to take the tablets and the should help which they do not over a longer period of time. I’ve just got constant pain in stomach which moves to the rest of my abdomen or gets worse after eating.
