GCSE grades aren't that important tbf. Ignoring A levels for a moment, those grades alone are good enough providing you're not wanting to do something heavily maths related (that 8 would limit your options).

But if you can get A*s at A level then there's no reason why not. An 8 in one subject at GCSE will not disadvantage you, as A levels are far more important

If you can’t answer that yourself, then you don’t deserve to have them consider your application.

Thats what I’m saying could be a problem as I would be applying for something like engineering

An A* in A level maths will more than compensate for the 8 in GCSE

I don’t know why you felt the need to comment tbh

I just hope it won’t hamper it too much

It probably won't do, my interviewer himself told me that the GCSE grades are barely looked at (same for personal statement). This was for natsci physics at cambridge, so probably applies to engineering too

These grades are not exceptional as far as serious oxbridge applicants are concerned. They're very strong grades indeed, but nothing more than oxbridge would want.
It's a genuine concern getting an 8 in an important subject. Although given this is GCSE and not A level, it will not make much of an impact as A levels are more important
