My (very boring) GCSE GYG -- Year 11

My Post.png
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a couple of you may know, I had another GYG which I started but wasn’t super active on... This was partly down to not liking how it was going, not having any kind of structure at all and being a little demotivated. However, I’m now ready as ever to restart and make a proper GYG 😊...

I have purely made this to track my *very* stressful journey through year 11 to keep track of my work yet also have an escape from it(?) .. IDK what I’m saying now 😂. Also, hopefully, it will make me more motivated to study and will help me organise tasks better, even if no one reads it 😅. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this because it will be boring + feel completely free to leave advice and check up on me if I haven’t posted in ages (hopefully not gonna happen)

You sound very similar to me in terms of summer 'plans' I'm dreading year 11 too (partly because of GCSEs and partly because of having double English lessons :nah:)

Good luck for year 11

This was partly down to not liking how it was going, not having any kind of structure at all and being a little demotivated. However, I’m now ready as ever to restart and make a proper GYG 😊. Now onto the actual thing.. 😂

I have purely made this to track my *very* stressful journey through year 11 to keep track of my work yet also have an escape from it(?) .. IDK what I’m saying now 😂. Also, hopefully, it will make me more motivated to study and will help me organise tasks better, even if no one reads it 😅. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this because it will be boring + feel completely free to leave advice and check up on me if I haven’t posted in ages. BTW I’m hoping to update every Wednesday during the summer holidays and then probably Sundays once it’s school again.

My subjects:
Edexcel Maths (higher)
WJEC Eduqas English Literature
WJEC Eduqas English Language
AQA Physics (higher)
AQA Chemistry (higher)
AQA Biology (higher)
AQA French (higher)
AQA Geography

My current predicted grades:
Maths - 7
English Literature - 6
English Language - 6
Physics - 7
Chemistry - 8
Biology - 6
French - 7
Geography - 7

Future plans:
My future plans: (these are my personal goals so it would be nice if no one hates on me for wanting certain grades/career paths although tips/advice would obviously be appreciated)
- Get through GCSE, aiming for 7+ in every subject apart from English where I honestly think my max ability is at 6s and BTEC Enterprise where I'm aiming for Distinction maybe Distinction*
- Go onto studying A-Levels where I will hopefully do Maths, Economics, Business + Further Maths
(the part below could change but this would be my perfect situation)
- Get at least AAB at A-level and go onto study Business Accounting and Finance BA (with business placement with PWC https://www.ncl.ac.uk/business-schoo...tart/#overview ) at Newcastle University where in a little over 5 years (4 of them at uni), I will hopefully become a fully qualified chartered accountant with ICAEW.
- Make £££ 😂:colone:

I know that these goals/plans are quite ambitious and probably too well thought out right now but this is my dream goal and I do like to be super organised and always have a plan..

Plans for the summer:
- nothing
- I should prepare for next year but like I CBA ugh
- Come to the realisation its year 11
- Panic over that^^^
- While panicked, make revision notes that I then throw away
- Meet up with my friends who are forcing me to go outside
- Find a way to make money for a new phone
- Listen to music
- Netflix/Youtube/Spotify
- Be sad that Jane The Virgin (yes I watch that and got addicted and watched it all in 2 weeks) is over on Thursday ☹️☹️
- Might watch Black Mirror ... I'm not sure
- Make unnecessary lists for "revision" that I won't use.
- Go to sleep at 3am wake up at 3pm (it always happens don't judge) <-- already completed .. look at me checking things off a list!
- Be lonely
- Tidy and hoover my room

How am I feeling about next year?
Honestly, I’m scared to death .. like completely terrified :frown: .. That’s all really .. I suppose I’m kinda excited for the next chapter in my life (A levels) and to see how well I can do in these exams. Typical sappy stuff really 😂

A bit about me:
This will probably be the most boring section 😂..
I is a boy who is 15 and is technically in Year 11 now and will be sitting GCSEs in 2020 ☹️. I’m very boring TBH.. like so far this summer (excluding my nice holiday last week) I have stayed inside and just watched Netflix and done nothing productive at all.. I should really get a job or something but it’s really scary and I get money by selling my stuff on eBay so oh well (pls no eBay ppl kill me I use my dad’s account and I really don’t want it closing down or anything 😂). I do have real life friends (a surprise) that I could meet but tbh it’s effort and I like being alone 😂.. that’s it now the pain is over you don’t have to read about me anymore!!!

Thanks for reading (if any of you actually made it this far)! Goodnight 😂

SORRY ITS A KINDA LONG FIRST POST!!!!!! 😂

And I know I’m not really Year 11 until September but who cares

I WILL BE POSTING EVERY WEDNESDAY DURING THE SUMMER + SUNDAY WHEN SCHOOL STARTS AGAIN.
(I might post small updates more often when I feel like it)

I'm reading! And you are so prepared for the future, it's really good that you know what you want to study and be. Whereas me. Yeah. 🤤

I'm kinda like you in some ways, I have friends but sometimes I just prefer being lonely. 🤔 I went out with them yesterday and I was just exhausted when I came home, but I suppose in a good way.

Good luck for Year 11 😄

Of course I'll add you onto the next update  (yayay I was noticed). I should really do something to aid my revision but I keep finding excuses like "its my last summer before gcses so I must relax blah blah blah etc etc 😂).
I'm kinda dreading science the most because I will have 9 hours a week of it (might not seem like much to some but my school only has 5 lessons per day = possible double/triple science lessons ) and how can it be fun if I have it all the time?
Thanks  you too!

Yayy  I suppose it is good but not great because I am probs not considering other paths because I'm so focused on this one :/ but oh well I can think about that in a couple of years..
Yeah, I find it exhausting sometimes after being with my friends.. I'm not sure why tho.. like someone asked me if I was free and I literally said "are u gonna ask me to go outside and socialise because the answer is no 😂"
Thank youuuu  have fun in year 10 hehe

BTW, does anyone have any ideas on what things I could do first that will be helpful for next year but not like hardcore revision?
Thanks

Firstly I just want to say I am definitely following you as we do the same subjects with the exception of french and we have similar grades.
Secondly I would start just maybe rewriting notes for the stuff that you did at the beginning of year 10 or the stuff you really struggled with.

Hi, also going into Year 11. Keep me tagged! The only helpful thing I can think of would be re reading your English texts (even if you hate it) and keeping up with maths because the book I read for English Lit at the start of year 10 has completley disappeared out of my head, which really isn’t good given my first mock is two weeks after going back in to school.

I had 9 lessons of science a week in year 10 (although mine were only 50 minutes) so I get what you mean
On Tuesdays I would have 4 science lessons in one day

I suppose watching youtube videos, going through seneca, etc on topics that you weren't entirely confident on from year 10 could help so that you aren't left with gaps in your knowledge when you go to start year 11

Also for english lit, it would be helpful to make sure that you have annotated all of your poems fully. In class I've annotated all of mine, but some only have a few sentences on whilst others I have completely finished, so will probably try and finish them over the holidays.

From yr 6 (I finished yr 11 now) I’ve thought of my career to be business based
And I wanna do the same!
Business Accounting and Finance
Wow finally found someone who wants to do the same as me 😌

Ryan- look how many people are on your GYG, and everybody's supporting you. You say it's boring, but we are interested because you are an amazing person- and that's the end of it. I've been PMing you for a while now (ever since French lol), and you are genuinelly an awesome and kind friend to have, so for goodness sake:

[scrollr]Stop saying that nobody is reading! 😎[/scrollr]
Just some advice. 😄 (sorry I only just noticed that you keep on saying it and I had to mention something lol)

I think it's great if you have a career path, because you can concentrate on the subjects that are important and that you know you enjoy. 😀

Omg- I thought it was just me! I get so tired after a day out with friends, don't get me wrong they're formidable people but I just get so... exhausted? 😥

😂 Enjoy year 11.

(My phone freezes all the time and then comes off the Internet and I have to log back into TSR again, so annoying! 😡😠)

Listen to funny revision songs. Trust me, they get stuck in your head and you remember stuff so much. For Jekyll and Hyde, my English teacher made us watch this creepy video on Bitesize, but because it had a tune I was writing about it in my exam. 😄

I have some weird videos for French as well lol. Watch YouTube videos, make acronyms etc. Oh, and although it's boring creating flashcards now should be ideal (if they help) because you save time in Year 11 and you can just revise. Use websites that make you play games whilst learning at same time.

Best of luck 😄

Yay  thank you! That would be a good idea although I am missing lots of my books (teachers don't trust year 10s apparently 🙄) so tbh I can't remember what we did.. 😂. Would you like to be tagged on the next update?

I will  .. that will be hard as English is the worstttttt (no offence to anyone pls 😂) like I still don't understand how analysing Macbeth etc is more helpful than grammatical skills but that's a rant for another time... Luckily, we read all of J+H in the last couple weeks so that's fresh in my mind so I can focus on Macbeth + An Inspector Calls. Maths will be easier as I actually like it but as with everything, it takes effort which I just don't have at the moment... Thanks

My lessons are an hour long, so not far off but having 4 in one day like you did would actually kill me, you poor thing! I was really lucky this year, most of my doubles were either split by lunch or with different teachers so it didn't drag so much. Thanks for the advice  there are definitely some things I should go over (homeostasis :s-smilie:) that I just don't understand like at all :frown:. As earlier mentioned, many of my books including my poetry anthology were kept at school so I don't have a hard copy but luckily, I took pictures of the full thing so I think I'm gonna make my own (+ then regret that my other is messy and buy a new one) 😂. There are some poems that I need to go over tho...

I know , I actually can't believe it! I shouldn't say it's boring anymore as it certainly doesn't feel like it now! .. Thank you  I will try not to say it again, you can tell me off if I do 😂or if I say its boring lol.. I know it seems like I'm copying you, but you are definitely an amazing and supportive friend so please remember that!

Thanks for the advice, it sounds like I definitely need to look at my list of helpful YouTubers and actually watch some videos and then I can stop hating on myself for not being productive 😅. TBH for some reason flashcards haven't helped in the past but I don't think I've been making then right (e.g. writing like an essay on both sides) so I could try making some for equations etc.. I do really want to create some resources now because I feel guilty about not starting earlier so I should get on with that!

Honestly, I am kinda overwhelmed with all the responses (like u might've been able to tell, I didn't really expect it!) so I just want to thank all of you again for being so positive + helpful :five: ... and sorry it takes so long for me to reply, I have this thing where I have to read it over and over to make sure its ok so it takes a while 😅.

Imma go be productive now 😂
Hey RyanC
I will need lots of luck for results day 😂 thanks!
Yr 11 was like my laziest year but soooo much revision urghhhhhh
I was so focused on revision before yr 11 and would do so well but once yr 11 started I just couldn’t be asked!!!!
It’s so much better to make all or most of ur revision material in yr 10, that way it so much easier
At least it was for me!

Also this business accounting and finance doesn’t sound boring to me
It’s not boring at all!
If u think ur gonna follow that career path then Yh do it
But u k ur mind changes as u grow older
But if this is ur main thing in ur mind (like mine) then go for it

I really enjoyed GCSE business so I’m doing it for A level as well

Are u doing GCSE business? Or finance?

Omg if I suggest this to my French teacher he'll make us sing it. 😣😐 Maybe not.

It's a good tune though. Have you listened to the pink panther themed avoir conjugation?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3kWwS1_Kark

We have to stand up and sing it every lesson, if we don't we get sprayed with water. Awesome teacher- here is another we do.

We never had an option to do it as a GCSE but I did do it as a BTEC which ended this year. However, it's really confusing to explain because the exam thingy we were doing changed to "Promotion and Finance for Enterprise" in Year 10 so we basically had 1 year to do 2 years worth of work.. and because of this we don't get any certificates or even find out our final grades for our coursework until results day in 2020.. at least I don't think so.. We did do an exam which for some reason we got the final grade for and it went really well  so that's good. Basically, that long explanation was to tell you that I now like Business/Finance which is why I'm choosing A Levels in those areas.. I hope it isn't too hard since I will have missed a year doing it (in Y11) and it was only a BTEC.. Oh well 😂

Yeah that is definitely a big positive, Business/Enterprise was one of the lessons I preferred (especially the financial aspects 😂) and yeah I know some basic terminology and I still have my revision book to refer to if I wanted to.
