The Student Room Group

No need to read this, just needed to vent. And if

... you want to, please say how stupid I am.

I know I shouldn’t be, but I am extremely jealous and bitter of everyone who has got into medical school.

My own fault I failed, but if I had hindsight I would have done better.

I am nothing now. A failure.

😞

I wish I could roll back time. I wish I wasn’t so relaxed when it came to
doing my AS-levels. I wish we were allowed to do A-levels over 3 years.

I can’t believe how much I have let myself down 😔

You're saying this as if it is over. When it is not. Just go again, you'll get there in your own time. Don't worry about what the others are doing because that builds up unnecessary envy.

It is over. My A-levels are terrible. Thinking about doing GEM, but I know I will fail that too.

i don’t want to miss anymore years, I just need to find another career (I don’t think I can actually consider other careers though). 🙁

a small part of me can relate to what you said but as @ analsurprise has said don't worry 'bout what others are doing. I should take that advice too :colondollar:

I'm sure someone better qualified will know if I'm right, but if you've messed up your a levels badly I don't think there's anything you can do for now apart from go from grad entry. If it means anything I dropped out at 15, predicted CEE and got 3A*, slim chance things might turn out great in the future for you just stay optimistic, keep working hard, make sure you're having fun and do your best. If things don't then try not to let it bother you, one of my friends got rejected 4 times and it was so sad to see it eating her up inside. :frown: Make sure you're having a good time in the mean time instead of getting overly obsessed about this so if you're rejected again you won't have the horrible feeling you've got now.

Here are some things which will definitely take your mind off things, some require money some don't:
Hire 2 escorts at the same time
Hit on random women
Travel with friends
Get absolutely s***faced
Ring up quickquid, wonga, flat earth society etc and say random c**p to whoever picks up
Videogames and insult everyone
If you're quieter maybe movies?

Start living your life bro you tried your best have a bit of time off .

Thank you for your advice, but I’m female.

Still I'm sure there must be something which sounds interesting, although unfortunately don't really know what girls like to do. Those are just things I enjoy when I'm getting fed up and need to destress lol, try doing something "intense" like those and I'm sure it will take your mind off things.

I see how you've put "I don't want to waste more years", you're only wasting the years if you're doing nothing but studying and not enjoying yourself. e.g. if you do your first degree, have fun, have backup plans, things don't go so well (and it's a real possibility) it doesn't matter. You haven't wasted 4 years trying for medicine, you wasted a few months doing the ucat, gamsat etc and although it would have been nice to get in it's over now and you had a good time anyway. Make sure your work experience is something you actually enjoy so that isn't a waste of time, make sure your degree will be useful if you're unsuccessful etc and although I guess rejection would suck you'll still be doing much better than most of the uk

Life sometimes throws you a curved ball and put you on the wrong path. I think I have read some of your posts before. Wishing you well.

Life is not over. I will share my story to show you that things can and do get better despite everything.

I got EEE at A level. My father was a drug addicted alcoholic who spend his spare time trying to commit suicide before he eventually succeeded. My mother didn't care. I would be left alone for weeks on end while they went on holiday. I was 12 years old. There are other things which I won't go into here.

So after my failure at A levels, I left home , working in Asda for a year before eventually settling in London. I decided not to let a miserable upbringing dictate my life. I went to evening university birkbeck and got a degree. I also trained as a nurse. Yep it wasn't my original plan, but I was solvent and educated.

There is always another avenue for you to go down ..... you just need to look for it.

I have given up now. It is not technically over; but to say it would be easy is an understatement.

What do you mean ‘i’ll get there in my own time’? I am stuck. I need to complete a degree, sit the UCAT and BMAT then the GAMSAT. I need to get a first and to be honest life is not inclined towards the better things.

What are these other ways? GEM?

If so, I think the stress will kill me :frown:

Thanks, ecolier :h:

I really appreciate your help. 🙂

I really can’t stop thinking about my life and how to get anywhere in
it. How do you manage to live in the present and not worry about the future?

Thanks for being so kind

Don't be doing anything that is going to put your health or mental health in jeopardy. No job or fancy career is worth that.
Look I’m in the same situation and here’s what I’m doing

I’ve failed my a levels probs getting BDU

BUT, I won’t give up.

I’m hoping to get into QM foundation year and during that foundation year I will resit my a levels of they are ****.

If I do well I might apply for normal med, if not then I’ll go onto a normal degree.

Yes it’s more expensive and probably harder but it’s not like ur losing 100% from it.

You have two degrees under ur belt and if u make sure u do ur undergrad in something ur interested in u can maybe use it later on if you want to do research etc

DONT GIVE UP

TAKE THINGS SLOWLY

This is coming from someone who wanted to end it all themselves but I’ve just learn reframing ur situation is the best way to cope with things, if you don’t you just fall into a hole that never ends.

Yh it might take you 8 years and cost you a lot (then again it’s loans it’s not like you have to pay it back immediately or in great amounts)

But do remember during those long years, ur still gonna have fun, still make memories, date, learn etc, life doesn’t go on hold

Thank you 😊 so inspirational. You give me hope that I will be able to do something I enjoy despite having setbacks.
did you know gordon ramsay wanted to be a footballer when he had a severe injury and had to quit? He went into the polar opposite of football... COOKING. and he’s one of the most popular, wealthy and successful chefs today with countless TV programs and cookbooks. he’s travelled all over the world. people love him despite him being an ******* when he was younger.

So it’s for u to decide. either you try again, retake your exams, do “GEM” or whatever, and try for medical again, this time knowing you CANT fail or you see this as a blessing in disguise ... and choose another life path. Maybe something you never imagined doing, like law or engineering or business... and you’ll find yourself not regretting what happened with your A Levels.

option 3 is u completely give up. just give up. you don’t think you can find another life path, and you don’t think you can retake your exams either. So you’re just gonna lie here feeling bad for yourself.

it’s all up to you. When we’re stuck in the present we usually can only see the blockage in front of us but if we look at the bigger picture we realise how YOUNG we are and how many years are ahead of us. your life is NOT over. it’s literally less than a third way through.

Don’t lose hope. And stop feeling bad about yourself.
