Doing law but achieved BBB. Should I consider retakes?

I recently got my grades and didn’t achieve as well as I had hoped. I got BBB and was not too far off the next grade but not close enough for remarks.

I am want to be studying Law at Uni however for mid-top tier firms an ABB/AAB is necessary. Should I consider retaking my a levels? I’m aiming to maximise my chances at getting a TC and BBB would definitely hinder me.

Moved to Law

You would still be able to apply to plenty of Law firms with BBB (not quite the top firms maybe, but enough to give you a decent amount of choice) and as says, the BBB would still have to be listed on every application form regardless of whether or not you improved your grades via retakes. I would personally say that BBB is good enough not to make resits that worthwhile. Do you have any uni offers at the moment?

Yes I have got an offer from Aston university. I know it's not that great but not a lot of other unis are offering a place at the moment.

I have a close friend who works at A&O and also does graduate recruitment for them and he's looking to transfer over to DLA. I got advice from him and he said as long as I get a first and good legal WE I should be okay. Very unlikely to land a TC from an MC firm but midtier firms would still consider my app, despite retakes.

Did you specifically ask re Aston Uni?

Firstly they’re very good grades, B’s at A level are hard to achieve!! Secondly the uni of law is really good at getting training contracts for its students and they ask for BBB so you could possibly consider that? If you smash your degree and get a first or even a 2:1 I’m sure you’ll have a great chance at getting a tc!
i would resit and try and get ABB tbh then you pretty much can apply wherever

“Some say that he knows two facts about ducks and both of them are wrong. And that 61 years ago he accidentally introduced her majesty The Queen to a Greek racialist. All we know is that I’m going to the tower now to have my head cut off, and he is called the Stig.”

But then she’s taking a year out and resitting to go up one grade?

That would be completely pointless.

how is taking a year out to resit her a levels pointless? you do realise you need a minimum of ABB for law and finance to be considered. its not useless at all.
its not a silly notion but most firms will require ABB and BBB doesn't stand much of a chance when other applicants will have A's.

I resat my A-Levels and went from BBD to A*AB, so there’s a definite improvement.

Do you really think employers or anybody would be particularly impressed if you took a year out and went from BBB to ABB? They’re not the most competitive grades anyway, especially if you took an extra year.

If you were resitting with BBB, I’d expect AAA minimum.
That’s my point exactly; there’s so much more to it than just achieving the minimum grade requirement.

If I was an employer and saw someone resat to go from BBB to ABB, I’d be pretty confused more than anything.

i said ABB is the absolute minimum so she can resit however many subjects she likes. "AAA minimum" i think OP would have to try her very best but you aren't the judge considering you didn't get AAA either.

Oh stop with the sass and stupid advice.

I’m not judging at all and don’t see why you’re being so condescending?

I’m speaking from experience having just resat my A-Levels. It’s a difficult year and it can drag enormously. Taking a year out to resit and achieve only one grade better would be a huge waste of time and you might be at a tiny advantage, but not compared to everyone else.

ABB isn’t going to take you much further than BBB, especially with resits. If you want to reach the top firms, most have AAA or AAB requirements anyway (some in one sitting), so you’d still be out.

I went up 5 grades, which is worth it. To go up 1 isn’t.
