Stumped between two universities

Hi,

I have applied for Mechanical Engineering at University of Leicester and MMU and I have received offers from both of them. But I just can't decide between the two, I've been thinking about this for a while now and it's quite stressing.

I'm from Nottingham so on the one hand, University of Leicester is closer to me and will cheaper if I commute plus they also have a better Mechanical Engineering degree.

However, on the other hand MMU is in Manchester which is a better city, social city where I can make friends, however the degree isn't as 'valuable' there when compared to Leicester.

I feel as if I pick University of Leicester it would be better in the long run for the future, however I'm just not sure.

Can anyone give me some advice? Quite stumped.

I would pick Leicester because as you say, it has a better reputation for Mech Eng. Would it be possible for you to live in Halls for first year, as that would probably make it easier to socialise and after all, you would have to pay accommodation fees if you moved to Manchester? There is no guarantee that you would have a better uni experience if you moved to Manchester as how much fun you have is largely down to luck regarding the people you meet and the friends you make

You have already answered your question - UOL better in the long run - but to be honest - it is a stem subject - you could get a degree from a dub university and it is still worth a lot.

Yeah you're right it is a STEM subject so it's useful anywhere and all the course contents for universities are really similar. I think perception can be quite important when it comes to employability as well.

It's quite interesting, I was doing something research. According to, The Economist: "The Economist has ranked MMU #92 out of 124 within the UK in degree value, based on statistics from the Department for Education, which indicated MMU degrees having a negative effect on graduate prospects."

Now that statement is just a general statement and doesn't mean anything towards Mechanical Engineering. As a matter of fact it doesn't have any meaning to towards any degree, but still its just the perception and how people view it that counts sometimes. Especially employers. Thanks for the replies anyways, I'm going to just move to Leicester.
