Time spent revising

I just started year 11! I'm on track with all my targets (except citizenship but that's another story) and I came out with 1 6, 2 9s' and the rest 7s' in my mocks. I really want to do well in my actual exams but I'm having trouble knowing how much to revise in total. I know they say just do as much as you need but I struggle with balancing revision times with video games, so having a set number would help me out a lot.So, how much did you revise in total for each subject, roughly? Was there a certain amount of time per week that you aimed for? By the way, I take: geography, history, triple science, citizenship studies and obviously English lan lit and maths.

In year 11 I just learnt to spend my free time revising, it gave me something to do and, as sad as it sounds, almost gave me a big void to fill when summer started. Whenever I’d play video games or go out or whatever I’d spend revising. You just gotta learn to. I ended up with all 8s and 9 in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
I created a revision timetable focusing on subjects and topics within those subjects that I know I struggled with. Make sure you balance revision with having breaks so you don’t burn yourself out and make sure you learn all the basics too

I would say aim to do at least 2 hours everyday of bang on revision and dont let anything stop you. Get into that routine so when it comes to exam season you wont find it hard to do 3-4 hours everyday

Well done! I'm definitely going to try to get in the habit of revising like that, but it's difficult considering the desk in my bedroom has my monitor on it too so it's just too tempting sometimes.

Thanks for the tips! How much revision did yours have on it per week, if you remember? I don't really know how much is too much or too little.

I’m also in Year 11 struggling with how much revision to do.

Depending on how much time I had to revise, I think for each of my subjects, I never did more than an hour a night (usually about 30-45 minutes of really focused revision) with a break and then another subject as well.

For everyone it’s very different so to be honest you have to do what feels right for you but I’d say don’t do anymore than 2 hours per night or you’ll burn out

Tbh I have been revising for like 4 hours a day after school and have stopped playing games completely, of course you don’t have to do this but I have because I want high grades

I don't think that's a good idea, it's important to have breaks and by the end of the year you'll be tired/bored of all the studying. I want high grades too but I think it's achievable without such intense revision. Maybe you should make a timetable and still include time for games/socialising? Give your mind a rest:smile:

Yes agree with your point about breaks which I do take, I usually revise for 1:30 - 2 hours then take a break, this works for me because I can revise for long periods of time. Also I will only be revising like this until my November mocks then slow it down until Xmas then pick the pace back up, I just need good grades in my mocks for sixth form applications

That makes sense, good luck:smile:
Have you tried doing the pomodoro technique for revision and studies?
it deffo depends on who you are, as many people revise differently! i know people who barely revised who got better grades than people who revised every day since the start of year 11. i'd say at the moment just do casual revision (seneca, quizlet, etc.) then getting closer maybe do 2 hours of revision a day

Thanks for the advice  All my teachers are pushing us to make revision materials and do about 2 hours a night now, but I'm worried I'll burn myself out. I think I'll do what you said and increase it after Christmas.
