Is Cartmel really that bad?

Since its my first year at Lancaster, I dont really have a choice but to stay in the accomodation Im given (though Cartmel was not in my choice at all). So I've been googling about the reviews about Cartmel, and all of it is kinda bad? Was thinking of living off campus but then it would be pretty unpractical given Im not familiar with the place at all. Those who stayed at Cartmel, can you guys give me your honest opinion about the place? Thanks a lot !
Hello!
I think Cartmel doesn't have the best reputation but honestly I think it's fine! Barker house farm is undoubtedly the best college social space (in the fact that it is actually social). There's also a secret hidden study spot in there which tends to be pretty empty for most of the year. It also has the biggest laundrette by far (I was in Pendle but used to use it) so you won't have to be queueing like you would in the others. There are some buses that drive right outside Cartmel so you don't have to walk so far. It is a bit quieter and further of a walk but I'm sure it'll be fine. There's a video I helped make where the first girl talks about being in Cartmel and you can watch it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klSvhrcpjvc).
It's not seen as a 'party' college but that doesn't mean it's so awful. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll answer them all honestly

p.s. I would seriously NOT recommend living off campus. I didn't love my flat in first year but campus isn't that big and you really won't be that far from your other friends

Although I don't go to Lancaster uni, I have stayed at Cartmel before and it is decent. It's liveable and it's fine. Don't worry about it XD
Hello there! Charlotte's already done a great post, thought I'd drop a line too as I lived on campus in Cartmel for three years during my undergrad studies (I'll be returning to do a postgrad course this year :woo: ). I was fairly fresh to the uni experience, so I asked around and requested to stay on campus during second year, which was convenient! In hindsight, I do wish I'd rented in town during second year if more for the experience than anything else, but campus and Cartmel is perfect for first year!

Cartmel isn't really bad at all, but I think it gets a bad rep just because it's at the very southern edge of campus and isn't as 'busy' as the colleges towards the centre of campus; it's not by any means a massive walk to the centre of campus, but you do have to leave about 15 minutes before a lecture (or 10 if you're feeling brisk). They do have loads of bar sports, social events, trips and other events much like every other college! :h: And as Charlotte says, the launderette is pretty big, and there's loads of space to socialise

My accommodation was a Superior En-Suite and I lived in the same flat for two years in a row from the allocation and had a good time on campus!

I'm joining Cartmel... What's so bad about it? I didn't really find much on it, and the accommodation is very nice so I'm not sure what's wrong.

There's nothing bad about it really, it's just that geographically it's the farthest from the centre of campus, so you have maybe a 10 minute (max) walk to lectures rather than 5 minutes.
