To figure out what x is, we divide both sides by 4 so:

treat the inequality as an = sign, so:
4x>11(-1) ~> 4x>10
x>10(divided by 4) ~> x > 10/4
simplifies to: x > 5/2

Yep, so If we divide 4x by 4, we get 1x, which is the same thing as x :smile:

4x/4 > 10/4

The fraction is 10/4 which can be simplified to 5/2 then if you write that as a mixed number it’s 2 1/2 which is the same as 2.5 :smile:

You need to learn how to do that.

You can leave it as a fraction though - just divide out common factors:

\frac{10}{4}=\frac{5*2}{2*2}= \frac{5}{2}

To get this to a decimal, you can multiply by 10, divide, then move the decimal point to divide by 10:

\frac{50}{2}=25

\therefore \frac{5}{2} = \frac{\frac{50}{10}}{2} = \frac{\frac{50}{2}}{10}=\frac{25}{10}=2.5

to put things simply, just find a number that both the top and bottom number will divide into when simplifying a fraction and keep doing this until both top and bottom have no other common multiples.

The fraction sign is basically the same as the divide sign

So:
10 divided by 4 = 10 / 4

Just replace the 'divided by' with the fraction sign

Here you need to "divide both sides by 4" to get rid of the 4 on the left. So you get

x > 10/4

10/4 means "10 divided by 4". The line in the middle of a fraction means the same as "divided by".
