Is bdsm and peodophilia linked in a way?

Ive always wondered, you know how some people are into bdsm/turned on by spanking etc or stories, well spanking is spanking it historically happened to kids so there will be stories on it which will turn them on, so does that make these people paedophiles? Even though they havent done anything wrong?

uh no definitely not. BDSM isn't exclusively spanking and may not even include it in a lot of cases. It cause just be bondage or dominant and submissive stuff its not all spanking and pain. if you are curious google both topics. Fairly interesting especially the science and stuff about paedophilia and linking it tot the brain.

I guess so many people say that people into bdsm are mentally ill/have a disorder its hard to know how common it is (probably something like 0.5%) as no one ive met is into it, they only like kissing and the usual stuff, so im under the impression its fairly abnormal.

I think a few more people like that because to doesn't just have to be the hard core stuff you associate with it. Just look t 150 shades of grey that was massively popular and it was along those lines.
Doubt it.
The problem with bdsm is that it generally involves adults consenting to illegality, violence or very high risk behaviour that could be life threatening.
It often takes a disturbed mentality to find that sort of thing sexually exciting or to derive pleasure from inflicting sadistic violence upon another person.

okay but it isnt just violence. It could be mild things like silk bondage and blind folds. That isn't disturbed. Thats increased senses to increase pleasure. Again look at the amount of people who like 50 shades of grey. Certainly wasn't for it's excellent story telling (imo)

I thought generally bdsm was light and just involved tying up/spanking/handcuffs. I thought what you mentioned is very extreme/minority.

Amongst the over 30s it tends to be hardcore- way beyond spanky and handcuffs.
Emphasising the m-d-s-b in that order with violence.
I walked out on the ex when I realised what vile bdsm stuff he was into.

My last relationship ended over the ex's dirty little hobby.
Violent bdsm, illegal bdsm hardcore porn and a pair of sex workers with appalling injuries.

The std's all those bdsm participants had were very real and life threatening.
From what I saw, none of them appeared to have any shame at all.

The main link is power play, and a power struggle. A broad topic that shares a similar dynamic in practice. But can come from very different places. It is normal for people to experiment sexually or develop fetishes as power play, an outlet to daily life and suppression. Power struggles and destructive desires, such as paedophelia, or even an interest in bdsm if it comes from a bad place (being abused as a child or in previous relationships, gravitating to what is 'familiar')
