Why do young people make terrible decisions?
Why do people make bad decisions when they are young, without thinking of the consequences?
Inexperience
Adults make awful decisions as well.
Because they feel like even if they do make mistakes, they've got a lot of time ahead of them in which to correct said mistakes. Whereas people die at every age completely out of the blue, as the media constantly remind us.
It's hard to think of any other reason why some are totally crazy binge drinkers - presumably they think their young bodies can take it, as they haven't taken much damage yet (but how long can they run with that one?).
Clearly, people are less likely to make the same mistake twice, which explains more sensibility as we age.

People make terrible decisions because sometimes they think it's the right one. Young people are in the process of growing up, so making some terrible mistakes sometimes it's part of life but, he who learns from it, is the wise one.
Adults make decisions based on experience. That experience comes from making mistakes in their youth.
