If you are a beginner, you should follow some steps that can help you a lot: 1. Read the clue. Then read it backward. 2. Think about the rest of the clue. 3. The part of the clue that is not the definition is known as the subsidiary indicator. 4. Harden your heart against the setter's siren charms. 5. Solve the damn thing. Moreover why you don't solve the crosswords on the Internet because there are many free crossword puzzles and there are more interesting than in the newspaper. I think that my advice will be a useful one.
