Hello!
I applied for Cyber Security with Forensics and got an offer back last week. I've already got the grades for it, I just need to finish my course now, which ends mid December this year (Access to HE course).
I got 5 offers back however I'm mainly torn between Sheffield Hallam and UWE - Bristol. I feel like the social aspect & the accommodation at Hallam may be better (LIV student looks absolutely incredible), however I think the course at UWE offer a few more modules that interest me.
I'm honestly so torn.

I do have one question - I understand that even if I choose you as my backup choice, I can still apply for accommodation at the same time that those who choose you as their firm choice can. So my question regarding this is do those who choose you as their firm choice get prioritised for accommodation? Because I understand accommodation is first come first served, but if somebody applies for the same accommodation I have, but 3 weeks after I applied, would they get chosen over me simply because Hallam is their firm choice?

Thank you!

Hi @DavidKV,

Congratulations on your offer to study at Hallam and good luck with your access to HE course!

It sounds like you are doing a good job of weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of your options. Did you come to an open day here at Hallam? They can really help you get a feel for the course from talking to students currently studying the degree and in-depth talks about modules and placement opportunities. While it is important that you are passionate about the modules, it is also important that you choose somewhere where you will be happy living, so it's great to explore what each place has to offer. You can order one of our city guides here which may help you decide if Sheffield is ideal for you.

We are glad to hear you like the look of our accommodation! For questions regarding allocation criteria for accommodation, you can contact our Accommodation team directly on +44 (0)114 225 5555 or email them on [email protected].

Thanks,
Ella

Hi, I’m Carly!

I’m applying for forensic accounting at Sheffield Hallam. I sent my application off last Friday. I initially wanted to do accounting and finance at uni with the aspiration of specialising in forensic accounting later in life but then I found this course when trying to find another option to put on my UCAS application. Since this was only recently, unfortunately I never attended an open day at Hallam. However, I know a bit about the city as I went to the open day at Uni of Sheffield.

I’ve also applied to do accounting and finance at:
- Newcastle
- Sheffield
- Northumbria
- Derby

I’m excited to go to university but scared about integrating into the uni social life whilst also keeping up with uni work and a job.

What would you say the best thing is about studying at Sheffield Hallam?

Hi! I’ve applied for criminology as well as criminology and psychology at SHU. I’ve received both unconditional offers today as I had to drop out of going university this year due to personal circumstances so I already have my grades. I’ve also applied for criminology at uni of Sheff and criminal justice at the Doncaster University Centre. Still waiting to hear back from those. I’m leaning mostly towards SHU at the moment as I’ve spoke to two friends who study there and I went to an open day which I just had a look around. Currently torn between the joint honours course and just straight criminology. I’ve been looking at travel to the Collegiate Campus as I plan to drive down if I do start in the first few weeks because I’m not too good with public transport at the moment, but haven’t seen much parking 😬.

Hi @Hannahb_,

Congratulations on your unconditional offers to study at Hallam! If you are struggling to choose between the two courses you can come down to our open evening on 11 December 4-7pm. You will be able to speak to the teachers and students on the courses to get a better idea of which you would rather study. If you can't make it, we will be holding a course open day in February where applicants can learn more about the course they have received an offer from!

You can also chat to our Criminology student Paige here about the course and student life in Sheffield, I'm sure she will be able to help you figure out which course to choose!

Unfortunately there isn't much parking around our Collegiate campus, but Hallam gives discounted rates to students at the NCP car park on Arundel Gate and the APCOA car park on Eyre Street. On weekdays, you'll be able to park at the NCP for £5.70 and the APCOA for £4.50, and both are within a 10-15 minute walk to Collegiate Campus. Here is some more useful information about where else you can park.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions

Hi!

I've recently received a conditional offer back for the Cybersecurity Course at Sheffield Hallam, but one of the conditions is that I get a 4 or Grade C in GCSE Maths. I was told Functional Skills level 2 in maths was an acceptable equivalent for this, so why am I being asked to achieve these grades still?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi! I'm applying for Electrical and Electronic Engineering and have accepted Sheffield Hallam as my firm choice and the University of Chester as my insurance. I'm feeling fantastic about getting this far in the application process and can't wait to attend the open day in March!
Hi, I recently recurve an offer from Sheffield Hallam and have accepted it as my firm choice. I did however email asking if a grade I got when I did my AS levels would count towards the 112 UCAS point offer. When should I expect to hear back? Many thanks.
Hello people!

I'm making this post because I want to make some friends before attending university, I hope to be attending Hallam next year and since I know literally no single person who will be going I thought it'd be good to try and make friends online! (famous last words)

Anyway I've applied to do sociology as an undergraduate study and hopefully I meet some cool people or some of you will introduce yourselves to be! So feel free to drop a message.

I got mine back within a week I think. maybe because you've sent it off later it may take a little longer and also it is the holiday season so maybe that could cause a delay? I hope this helps. feel free to message if you need anything!

Hi @KevinGacita17,

As you can imagine, we receive a high volume of applications during December ahead of the UCAS application deadline on 15th January, so as @HPScszerba has said it is right to expect delays while applications are processed thoroughly by our admissions team here at Hallam

What course have you applied to? Let me know if you have anymore questions about studying at Hallam or student life in Sheffield!
