Does anyone actually listen to this new era of hiphop?

Never liked it. It is just propaganda for american identity politics that don’t even relate to UK culture whatsoever. And the UK hip hop is just a bunch of brits pretending to be yanks, like what is the point?

And they come across as try hards.

This, I am also getting bored of stuff like that being brought into the music and also I find that people are too scared to give anything that talks about race anything other than a 5* review, it's a bit 'Emperor's New Clothes'. It was interesting in the 1980s when the likes of Public Enemy were doing it but can you talk about something else now please.

Aside from that, I generally don't like listening to vocals being rapped any more anyway.
Honestly no; infact I have been getting into west coast hip-hop of the old recently because of how dead both the american and the u.k. scene

U.K. scene about 2 years ago was flourishing. The release of Nines "crop circle" album, JHus tracks still feeling fresh (god praise common sense!), the emergance of Fredo and Dave finally becoming mainstream so that even those that aren't part of the scene somewhat recognise such names, Not3s and Young Bane giving us awesome afro beats aswell as female artists getting some recognition such as Mabel. Drill was on somewhat of a decline, but if i'm correct the ban wasn't in place at that time anways.

Fast wordward to now the U.K. scene is dead. Headie One is doing a nice drill revive which I appluad as he varies his beats (take "bac to basics" ft Skepta) however there hasn't been any notable hits that have actually lasted on the charts. Looking through right now I see a collab with Ed and Stormzy, but it really isn't aimed at UK scene haha maybe secondary school kids. JHUS came back out of prison and made a beat that lasted a week before it died (which is a trend for most of the songs nowadays). Stormzy new album release has hit the charts although I'm not really impressed.
Dont get me ****ing started onth ebaoslute trash that is D-Block Europe and Young Adz. If you listne to these rappers, you shouldn't have an opinion. Autotuned trash with pathetic lyrics and are literally trying to destroy the scene that uk rappers tried hard to build. American wannabes with british slang essentially.

I have focused quite a lot on uk scene but thats because the american scene is just not wroth talking about. Looking at titles like "ROXANNE" thats released tells you a lot about the current music. Most American music have an even smaller life then curent UK rap, but are only backed up by their hard fanbase or peers via TikTok or some other social media. 69? they lasted 2 weeks. Cardi B? After Bodak yellow it also lasted 2 weeks. Travis scott highest in the room?? LMAO that was so trash I dont get how deluded fans could enjoy that, but its longevity speaks a lot (ocnsidering its recent release. The Weeknd got kicked off the uk charts already and I wouldn't even include has mainly as a rapper.

Spoiler

there's definitely some really good artists out there.

I'm big on JPEGMAFIA and Denzel Curry atm
(and Death Grips if u wanna count them)
so I'd say hip hop is good just not in the mainstream

I dunno if I’m just old now or what..but this new era of hiphop is awful and I’m wondering how anyone in their right mind could think otherwise. Artists hyped up but are absolutely utterly **** include:

21 Savage
Lil Uzi Vert
Migos
Da Baby
NBA Young Boy
Lil Yatchy

The list goes on..

Like wtf is going on? Admittedly American hiphop does not have the hype it once had in the UK back in like 2004-2015 so I’m not sure what these people who used to listen to artists like Eminem, 50 Cent, G-Unit, Nas, Lil Wayne etc are listening to now because this new era is pretty much a different genre of music. Admittedly I do listen to a little Young Thug (hence the name and pic) but thats really all I listen to from this new era and I gotta be in the mood. Only mainstream artist that doesn’t mumble down the mic that I can stomach these days is Meek Mill.

The “newest” artist I listen to is Post Malone... he’s not hip hop but still. I usually listen to to songs from 2010-2016 that I actually bought.

Hence the “” around the word newest because I now he’s not new but I don’t know anyone from 2017 onwards lol

Yess and his music is actually decent

You became a fan when he died I bet.

Read what I said fully.. and at least. “Young Thug” (which isn’t my name) does not mumble rap. Compare him to 21 Savage.

??? My dude hes the king of mumble rap.
I listen to all genres. From mumble rap to uk drill to indie and bass trap. Depends on my mood. In school i blast some juice wrld or lil uzi. At gym i play bass trap. At home drill or indie.

B4 u be like 'u probs listen to juice cuz be died. Na, i started listening to his songs in early 2018. All through last year mainly rich n blind(learnt thru friends) and all girls are the same
Any1 who listens to lucid dreams is fr a fake fan since thats probs the only song they know
(edited 4 years ago)
Tbh u cant rlly call artists trash if they inspire youths and be role models as most dont have a dad. Ye they rap about ****ing hoes n poppin pills but trippie uzi lil tecca liltjay all spoke multiple times on livestreams that if they rap about anything other than drugs their career is over, since they sold their sold to the devil right. But they heavily demote it in their streams and tweets. Why do u think people vare about 1 person dying, cuz theyre reatable

So one persons music cant be trash bc u dont like it, its probs the best song in the world to ur neighbhour. Subjective rbh

nah UK Drill is certi. It's family friendly. I mean just listen to this song, which is banned everywhere. and the only way you can watch it is by watching a guy react to it lmao
(For you information, this music video went viral a couple weeks ago because the Drill Group Zone 2 names a bunch of rappers/gang members who were killed and makes fun out of them. "put in a spliff"... very nasty.

Just search on youtube "Zone 2 - No censor Reaction" or just search "Zone 2 - No Sensor" on pornhub (Yes pornhub lool all drill videos taken down on youtube gets reuploaded on pornhub, im not even lying)

I have a hard time listening to mumble rappers. There are few rappers of this new generation that I love listening to and none of them mumble. I listen to:
1. Token
2. Joyner Lucas
3. Russ
4. Denzel curry
5. Logic
6. BROCKHAMPTON

Tbh I'm not sure how many of these artists are actually considered 'new generation rappers'. All the mainstream mumble rappers with excessive auto tune sound so generic and same that I don't enjoy it. But as long as rappers like the ones I mentioned above exist I'm gonna listen to rap all day long.

nah it's not just the beat that is rude. The lyrics are very vile. Makes fun out of at least 5 rival rappers who were killed by them.

Another song is a song called "NPK - Kelvin's Coffin". Which is about a kid called Kelvin or otherwise known as the rapper Lampz from WoodGreen/London. He was known across London for being a rapper and his reputation in the streets as it's rumoured he'd stabbed at least 10 people and killed someone. But at the age of 19 he was shot dead in Wood Green Cinema (the CCTV footage of this is on YouTube and there is a BBC Documentary about the case as well.
