I thought it was going to be for frustrating Congress.

Either way the entire process has been a farce on both sides.

The democrats are just helping trump win another term As trump will spin it as a attack on democracy.

Just as the Tories did with Labour's stance on Brexit. Caused them to win a massive majority.
Isn't it largely meaningless? The senate will kill it and it's not like he can be shamed out of office.

True, I'm not sure why people are reporting it like he's actually been removed when, as you said, it won't pass the senate.

The weird thing is for the 2nd charge Which is withholding information from Congress.

He said if you want the information you need to go through the courts (which he is correct as the house can't make demands of the president)

They didn't want to do this as it would of meant impeachment would of happened during the election.
Yet they are still impeaching him on withholding information from Congress even though they didn't go through the courts.

This entire thing feels stupid.

Because impeachment is distinct. What the Senate votes on is conviction/removal. By the time it reaches them, impeachment is already a done deal.

Yeah I didn't know what impeachment meant tbh lol.

It does. It seems like the dems have shot themselves in the foot. The senate is rep majority, there's no way this passes through the senate. They've basically handed Trump his second term.
There's no doubt that the Senate won't remove him, so this is nowhere near as exciting as it sounds.

why not? house of representatives is democrat led so of course it would pass. whether he gets removed from office is a different story - senate is republican led so they gotta convince a whole lotta republicans to vote yay
American politics is a joke. The Congress wasted ten hours yesterday on this issue and for what? Zero Republicans voted for impeachment. The Senate is Republican.

What an absolute farce. Waste of public money and the GOP and Democrats are disgraceful for behaving so partisan. Founding fathers would be turning in their graves.

You could've made the same claims about the Clinton impeachment (which was both far more unpopular and for far more trivial stuff) in 1998-99, which many current GOP Representatives and Senators now opposing Trump's impeachment supported back then.

That was indeed just as stupid.
The impeachment process has become partisan.

It's easy to see why America had a civil war.

Depends what you mean by stupid. It was never really about getting rid of Clinton so much as it was about damaging Gore's electoral chances. And in that respect it worked.

Amazing so happy about the impeachment 😁
What's the story of Ukraine?
The Democratic candidates for President are part of this process. Sitting in judgement over their rival.

Thar is banana Republic kind of stuff. At the very least they should recuse themselves.

But then, as others have said the whole process is laughable. Trump is on trial for winning, something the Democrats have never accepted.

Our politics is said to be broken, but one of the most impressive things about our recent election is that the losers, for now, at least, seem to have accepted they lost.

That always used to be the norm, and the fact that the Remainers DIDN'T accept they lost in 2016 caused the whole country to go into a nervous breakdown for three years. The Democrats not accepting they lost, is what has caused the US to go into this tailspin of madness.

But we seem to be returning to sanity at long last. Hopefully, anyway.
