Hi, could you tell me what the working hours are like for the STP? Is it 9-5? Just as the nearest post to me is 1.5 hours away on the train so not sure if its even worth me applying this year. Thanks

Hi, are the amplitude tests just made up of the numerical and logical practice? Also, how similar are the tests to the practice ones?

I think it varies a bit on department but they should be roughly 9-5.30 with an hour lunch and 2 15 min breaks I think. In immunology I can work flexible hours so I work 8-4 with a 30 mins lunch, but when I do rotations to other departments I think they hours are more rigid - so basically, it depends on the hospital, you could always contact them and ask before applying :smile:

I do a 1.5 hour commute as do a few others I know of, makes for a long day!

They're very similar to the practice ones, and yes just those two. I felt like mine went horribly but it turned out okay! You just have to not be the bottom bunch (bottom third I think) of all the applicants and that's all they use them for

Nope! They literally just use them as an initial ranking process, you'll never see them again after 🥳

Hi there,

I applied last year when I had no employment history (relevant) so i ticked the box on the application. Even though I have clicked on the new 2020 application, it wont let me untick this box to add my employment in. Can anyone help please as I'm concerned about time and my job is relevant so could make all the difference (I missed out only just last year)

Hi there!

Does anyone know if the application questions are assessed individually or all together?

I want to talk about some industry experience in the first question and then refer back to a different part of the same industry experience in the second question. Should I reintroduce the same experience again, or is this a waste of words?

Hi I wanted to know, when you applied for the STP when were the university providers for all the specialisms released and confirmed? Was this after the application deadline had passed? I'm quite worried at the moment about how far the chosen university for my specialism may be :/

I may be wrong but I thought they were always provided by the same unis because they're accredited courses?

You should get some kind of travel and accommodation grant to support you while you attend the uni bits I believe.

Hi! When I applied there was a list of the unis on the website but I can't find a similar thing now they've redone it. SpinningLizard is correct, they're accredited courses so always run in the same place (for example blood sciences are taught in Manchester). We are given funding for travel and accommodation for this as the teaching is done in blocks (I had a 5 week block October this year, next year I think it's 3 weeks in October and 2 in February). So don't worry if you're far away, so long as you done mind spending a few weeks away from home (I travelled home at weekends but some people stayed the full time)

You have £2000 a year to cover travel and accommodation, any conferences you want to visit, and your research project in the 2nd/3rd year (I'm not sure when that falls)

Oh okay that seems alright i was just quite confused because when i looked into the STP last year, university of Birmingham was also listed but now it isnt

Yes the cost is the same for one, and covers reagents etc needed for the project :smile: it a bit harsh on people who live much further from the uni compared to others but it does the job!

I am trying to register for the Open Day for genetic counselling in Sheffield 9th January. When I click the link there is nothing to register, does this mean all the places are gone? Im not sure who to contact to ask about it, Ive tried emailing the event organiser but Ive had no response. Is anyone else going to the open days?
