XR listed on same list as terrorist organisations

Now I'm no massive fan of XR, they're mostly middle class whites who are out of touch with large sections of society BUT they are certainly not extremists, or violent. The reason they are on that list is very simple. They threaten the existence of the oil industry through mass protest and of course, wider capitalism. Just shows the police serve the interests of the ruling classes as opposed to the public!

What list are they on? this thread doesnt mean a lot unless we know what list is for.

XR are extremists, and whilst their levels of violence are mostly petty crime it still exists. The people actually disrupted by XR are everyday people just trying to get about their normal daily lives and get to work to feed their families.

Also XR dont really threaten the oil industry, and for the large responsibility the oil conglomerates have in relation to climate change, everyone needed the resources they provided for decades before we fully understood climate change and still need their resources now (and not to mention, BP, Shell, Exxonmobile etc. plow more money and research into renewables and low-carbon alternatives then virtually any other organisations).

XR are a bunch of people who do nothing to help climate change, yet cause more problems for other people and are largely ignorant as to what we need to do, so whatever list their on, its probably for the best.

Caring for the environment is hardly extremist is it? They come out for a couple of days to a week a few times a year and cause a bit of a nuisance by blocking a bit of traffic. It's frustrating, but so are roadworks . Climate change will disrupt people's lives significantly.

XR aim to raise awareness. Please bear in mind I don't particuarly like them. But putting them as an extremist list along actual neo nazi groups and islamist groups is laughable. The Police clearly have an agenda against them.

And the head of OPEC as said the climate change movement is their biggeset threat. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/jul/05/biggest-compliment-yet-greta-thunberg-welcomes-oil-chiefs-greatest-threat-label

XR is a group of nutjobs who dont understand the issue.
XR have taken the most extreme stance but dont even fully understand the issues there arguing about.

The list is about ideology, XR have an ideology that everyone should stop everyday tasks and effectively radically change the country, yet they themselves dont even understand the science they preach, or understand the recommendations the global leaders in science on the issue are putting forward.

As for the OPEC point, i already mentioned the biggest players in the petroleum industry are some of the biggest investors in research into alternative technologies (and they were long before XR turned up).

This is a complete myth. Do you work for the oil industry?

No, im a doctoral research scientist working on high efficiency transport systems, im funded via government supported research councils that said I speak to other researchers at different unis and I know people who work on projects funded partially via industry (including the energy industry > including oil & gas producers...).

Ive also spent time going through all the IPCC, IEA reports etc.

There is definitely an element of self-interest in it for the oil companies, pivoting revenue streams, building future opportunities etc. they want to be leaders in the industry in 10-20-30 years and hence are pivoting. That said they still do tons of financing of research much of which becomes publicly available and is published in Energies, SAE, Nature and other top journals...
It is both chilling and highlights just how precarious freedom of conscience, dissent and freedom of speech are in Conservative Britain.

Much of that list is laughable. "Extreme satanism"? Come on...... And whatever you might think of Generation Identity and their ideology, they're not violent and have never advocated violence, nor civil disobedience. How interesting though that far-left groups like Antifa, who actually do encourage and commit violence are conspicuously absent from the list....

Isnt the whole point of XR to advocate civil disobedience?
Although, with reference to ANTIFA, i imagine their abscence from the list is somewhat more down to them not really being a group so much as several groups of hooligans who fancy branding themselves.

Oh, it has been tried but their connections in high places came up on top.

Do you ever read your articles before starting a thread?

The Guardian understands that counter-terrorism officials at a national level believe including XR in the guide was a mistake and insist they do not view its ideology as extremist. They say any such advice was issued by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) in the south-east of England and not in any other part of the UK.

In its first statement, CTPSE said: “This document was produced at a local level to help our partners to spot the signs of vulnerability to radicalisation. By including Extinction Rebellion in this document, it gives the impression we consider them to be an extremist group, which they are not. We will review the guidance to make this clear.”

Also the terrorism list of note is the prescribed terrorist organisation list kept by the government.

Not a fan of their methods but they're certainly nowhere near terrorist-level

ER wouldn't have half their following without the marketing they get from the BBC and the Guardian, that's what lends them a veneer of credibility to begin with. They platform them and voice them out with their interviews in the Today programme and their pages, all that gratuitous virtue-signalling we have become accustomed to. Wouldn't happen at the Mail, that's for sure.
they are extreme... but they are not extremist.

Should be pretty clear to most people. Its hard to argue that their methods/views are not extreme, given that they have admited as such and its pretty much their goal to take extreme action for a situation they view as extremely important.

But they aren't 'extremist' in the sense that we use that word.

Not yet at least.

No fear, the machine has kicked into action already:

"How dare they," said climate change group Extinction Rebellion.

Police are now reviewing and recalling the document.

Induced by the same people that, for example, reacted in exactly the same manner when a BBC host shot her mouth over Trump and was officially reprimanded for it. How dare they, that's what they said before reversing it. They're very touchy and don't take kindly to anybody getting in the way.

By the way, I notice that a thread with accusations of cruelty towards a suffering polar bear for effect by the Climate Change Church has now been closed. Didn't take long, the machine kicks into action again and there's no hiding place. Sinister stuff, all this.
Now we hear they've put Greenpeace on the list of organisations that (in theory) schools need to guard children against.

Pure propaganda bull**** by the authorities and shows what the deep state's true position is on the climate and extinction crisis.

Because they got caught. This is how they try out controversial moves to shut down freedom of protest. Put groups they want on there that will be controversial (like XR and Greenpeace), if there's backlash against them then "oh, including them was a mistake", if there isn't massive backlash then that 'mistake' becomes actually very genuine.

The important thing you've got to remember is that most world leaders at this point want the climate catastrophe to occur, because we're very much at the point where it is a choice between a liveable planet or the capitalist system, and they've made the decision to serve that system no matter the cost - the rich don't intend to fix what they've done, they want to know how, after "the event" they can enslave those that survive, and the politicians are firmly in their pocket, angels of death that would see the world burn and billions with it (remember that at 4 degrees of warming this planet could only support about a billion people, and the worst case scenario models suggest that with some feedback loops we weren't previously appreciative of, warming could reach 6 or 7 degrees)

Agreed, most mainstream politicians are still serving a destructive extreme capitalist agenda and a small group of global billionaires and international finance capitalists.

Note that the list only included the groups that are actually effective, like XR, Greenpeace and Peta.
Depends on the list IMO

1. I wouldn't say they XR are dangerous terrorists but they clearly are doing somewhat similar things to terrorist groups of the past

The IRA was phoning in motorway bomb threats in '97 disrupting the transport infrastructure to further their ideological agenda
https://www.irishtimes.com/news/motorway-chaos-after-morning-bomb-alerts-1.58721

XR attempt to disrupt the transport infrastructure to further their ideological agenda by climbing on top of trains

if you've got a list of organisations that have a track record of disrupting transport infrastructure for ideological reasons they'd both belong on it.

2. You get people taking it to far - a common response of environmental groups to not getting their own way is to increase the amount of alarming exaggeration in their propaganda... and some people take it too seriously.
e.g. During the Brent Spar dumping controversy '95 Greenpeace was telling people in Germany and the Netherlands that Brent Spar was dangerously radioactive and Shell was about to cause an unprecedented environmental disaster. Greenpeace encouraged a boycott of Shell filling stations - some bubble dwellers didn't think that was enough and started shooting firearms at Shell petrol stations.

Greenpeace didn't ask people to shoot petrol stations - but it's likely that people were inspired to shoot petrol stations because they were scared by Greenpeace's over the top propaganda... probably you'd want greenpeace on a list of organisations where you'd want to keep an eye on what they were campaigning about.
