Hey, I love how much effort you've put into your blog, it's truly really inspiring - definitely will be watching. Best of luck!

Good luck and hope you hear back soon!
No, just Cambridge.

Thank you so much!
Last offer...that means that from tomorrow you won't have to worry about answers anymore

Hopefully that sorts itself out soon?
!!!! That sounds intense...
Thank you, hopefully you're right.

I hope so but I'm kind of in limbo rn. I don't see any clear path in the short term which I don't like at all.

Yeah, I intend on going on a pretty fast pace (doing most y3 content in y2, hopefully) but not quite that fast.

The fact you already have your step grades gives me a lot of confidence.
any news?

Yes, heard back from Trinity. Got an offer of A*A so I'm very happy.

20/01/2020 - Random Update

To-do List

1.

Finish sorting data for my project. [done!]

2.

Revise vectors and matrices. [mostly done?]

3.

Complete algorithms and programming paper. [done!]

4.

Do one set of magnetic fields questions. [done!]

5.

Do one olympiad question. [ ]

6.

Finalise BPhO stuff. [done!]

I managed to get most of my to-do list done today which is good! I'm going to have another go at getting an olympiad question done tonight so hopefully all of it will be done by then.
Mocks start really soon, hence me pretending to be an actual further maths student for a bit. I'm getting my nuclear physics test back tomorrow which is scary because apparently it did not go well. Apart from that, not much is happening in terms of school work, just need to do lots of revision.

In other news, I got an offer from Trinity! So very happy about that. That means I've now got all 5 offers so it's just a case of waiting to hear back from MIT financial aid and then making a decision, so I'm not thinking about that for another couple of months.

Thank you! Have you heard back from either of yours yet or still waiting?

:console:That should keep you relatively busy. Good luck and keep me updated!

I'm not busy at all lol, haven't been for my whole time here. I think I'll deliberately adopt a workload too insane to possibly maintain next year, just to see how much work I can actually handle.

Thanks! I'll always keep my GYG updated for the benefit of anyone in the same situation as me in a few years. In their interest - I hope the outcome is therefore positive. Glad you're still interested after all the moaning.

Are you being examined in most of your subjects or are lots of them just for fun? What courses are you thinking of taking next year?
31/01/2020 - time to revise?

In other news, guess who totally failed BMO2? And also got rejected from both of the things that she applied to do over the summer?
In slightly more positive news, I might be a senior at a UKMT summer school, I just have to check what else is happening this summer and then respond to the email so that's exciting! I've also got more things to be doing on my NRP so, despite pretty much the end of my olympiad maths career (and it's so weird to think that I've just sat BMO2 for the third (and last!) time like... wow. So sorry for the very weird update but I'm still not over this and over the fact that I've got plenty more of this feeling to come through the rest of the end of school), I've still got plenty to keep me busy.

I've got mocks coming up so I'm trying not to think about anything else and actually figure out a revision timetable instead. My plan for this weekend looks something like:
Saturday : Pure, Mechanics, Capacitance, 9/12 markers in compsci.
Sunday : Statistics, magnetic fields, section 1 in compsci.
Monday : All the physics I can possibly cram before my mock, numerical methods.
Which might be a bit ambitious but I've still got to get through so much because I procrastinated. :frown: But I do get two days of freedom after so I'm seeing a friend on one of those days and hopefully some project work/maths on the other, depending on how I'm feeling after exams.

Not formally sitting any Y2 modules this year, just learning them for fun. Someone I know asked to do Intro to NT in year 1 and was told no. At least means I can get a decent mark when I do it next year since I'll be hopefully very comfortable with the content.

Will definitely be doing Geometry, Theory of ODEs, Introduction to Number Theory, Statistics which takes me up to 114 CATs. Variational Principles, Combinatorics and PDEs are down as maybes. Doubt I'll go over 120 CATs because I don't have that much I want to take. Story is very different in third year however. Will need to have a good idea of very very roughly where I'll specialise at the end of Year 2 for that reason.
16/02/2020 Update + Mock Results!

I survived mock week!

It was a bit of a mess as my physics paper was missing 4 pages and our computing teacher had set us 165 marks to do in 150 minutes, but we made it through. I got my results back from my teachers last week and I got 3 A*s which I’m happy with. I’ve also got a better idea of what I need to work on (spoiler alert: year 2 physics is actually not my weak point! But computer science is, and I do need to start learning my other further maths modules...). I think mocks have given me slightly more confidence going into the real exams and hopefully this confidence isn’t misplaced.

In other news, I got my hair dip-dyed again which did not go as well as planned but we’re running with it. Hopefully going to get a rough estimate of financial aid from MIT sometime around this week so looking forward for that and also trying to sort out what I’m doing over the summer at the same time. I’m also attempting to learn some differential equations as it’s a good way to revise further maths topics who knew that was what you could use eigenvalues and eigenvectors for? and gives me something to do other than school work. I’m going to do a bit more project work over this holiday but after that I’m mostly hoping to focus on revision.

I also saw Prince of Egypt last night (the dancing was incredible!) and I’m going to see Hamilton tomorrow (so excited!) so it’s been a good week for musicals.
06/03/2020 - School Stuff

Been back at school for almost two weeks now and I'm already ridiculously tired. Also can't be bothered to revise but I have to so mostly just doing multiple choice questions and flashcards. I've done a bit more on further maths but not a lot and have a physics required practical write-up which hasn't been doing particularly well at the moment so need to get round to both of those at some point. I also have a physics paper mock coming up so need to do some past papers ready for that.
The financial aid for MIT came through and it's not looking like we'd be able to afford it so I'm going to Cambridge instead.

That's unfortunate - have fun at Cambridge!
I suppose you're done completely now, now that exams might not be sat. As if your offer wasn't unconditional enough!

Any maths you're planning to do over the summer?

It's weird because we have no idea what's happening so no idea if we'll actually have anything to do. Teachers are still telling us we need to finish the syllabus but I guess we'll see by the end of tomorrow what's actually happening.

I'm not sure yet, got quite a few maths books that I keep meaning to work through so might start on that. How about you?

What areas are you looking at? I'll be looking to finish off Topology this easter, then over the summer finish off groups and rings, number theory, as well as do some analysis and Geometry. I'm setting myself a lot to do because I really feel like I've been slacking. I want to get a decent amount of third year content in to do an interesting URSS at the end of the year.
