Should we be able to change our age? We can change our Gender

Should we be able to change our age?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-46425774

"A Dutchman who wanted to change his date of birth to boost dating prospects has lost his legal battle to do so.
Emile Ratelband, still aged 69, wanted to change his birth date by 20 years to avoid what he called discrimination.
"We live in a time when you can change your name and change your gender. Why can't I decide my own age?" he said."

We can change our gender legally, so should we be able to legally change our age?

I think we should. I regularly get my age guessed at around 10 years younger than my true age ...and not only does this make dating bothersome [women your own age don't seem than keen, but girls much younger are the ones who show interest], ...I seem to always get people freaking out in non dating situations as well when they learn my age, and it starts to get annoying after a while.

No we shouldn't.
Pedophiles would then be able to change their ages to match the age of their victims.
Teenagers could change their ages to get into all sorts of trouble, and could vote.
The elderly could change their age to be younger and could hog job spaces for example that new graduates would have been able to move up into.
Ages enable the public to be able to identify for each person what is and what is not appropriate. Changes ages will cause chaos!!

Perhaps don't allow under 21 to identify as older, and not allow anyone over 21 to identify as under 21.
That would fix the pedophile problem and teenage voting problem.

I don't see the elderly thing as a problem though, as no one is going to mistake a 70 year old for a 21 year old fresh out of uni

Well then this begs the question what is the point of changing your age?
What is the point of a 22 year old identifying as 30? A 30 year old as 21? They're all adults. I don't see any advantageous reason for changing your age then. This will all just lead to confusion anyway.
Changing your age because it leads to discrimination to boost dating prospects lets say means you are essentially lying to your potential dating partner. If you think your age will put them off you leave the question until the end of the date or even later. There's no need to jump through legal hoops just to boost dating prospects wtf!

tbh, it's both dating and social scenario's that are effected.

eg: I went on a short course about a year ago, where the majority of them room was 18-24 [although there was a few people clearly over 50] ...and when someone asked me my age I tried to dodge the question at first, but they kept on asking me ..so I was forced to reveal it. The guy first started looking at me weirdly, then he accused me of lying. Then he literally made a massive song and dance about it and told everybody in the room. More people started looking at me weirdly. I got quizzed by a couple more people. Then THE NEXT DAY, the original guy was still accusing me of lying. He demanded to see my ID. and I went and actually showed it to him just to shut him up.

This kind of sh*t is annoying.
Life would be simpler if i could legally change my age.

everyone was estimating my age at around 10 yrs younger than my true age.

These sorts of instances arn't exactly rare either. It typically causes a commotion when people find out my age, because I don't look my age. It's getting annoying now.
people don’t make changes to the law just because you feel upset about people wrongly guessing your age. in 10 years time it won’t be a problem. i always get asked for id, i take it as a compliment. come on...

Age is a social construct. People should have the right to choose whatever age they feel on the inside. If a person is 70 and they feel 20, they become 20. So it's not lying. It's a lot like transsexuality. Its discrimination in the law to ask a transgender the gender identity that they were born with. By law, they can be untruthful about that gender to their prospective partners without any repercussions. Why shouldn't people be able to do the same thing with age?

Of course, I am being very sarcastic here. This is the route we are traveling and believe it or not if we carry on this way paedopilia will become legal and if a paedophile chooses to have sex with a child of yours and you dare challenge him/her you will have your life destroyed for discrimination.

Feminists have since the 60s been campaigning to legalise paedophilia. They have managed to successfully change many definitions in society in pursuit of this endeavour. Eventually they will be able to legalise it.

In a feminist conference in support of pornography, one of the most important conferences of its kind in feminist history, held in the early 1980s, attended by the top minds in feminism (Gayle Rubin, Faye Ginsburg, Susan Hill, Mary Calderone, Oliva Espin, Esther Newton, Kaja Silverman etc), Kate Millet, one of the most iconic feminist theologians set up a workshop advocating and promoting sex between adults and minors, promoting the legalisation of paedophilia. The conference came with minutes in which each feminist speaker who attended the conference was given the opportunity to write a passage about their speech and their workshop. Please find Kate’s below.

Please note that this is probably the first time that this issue has been written about anywhere online or offline, outside of feminism.

You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes in the west. Lots and lots of highly prominent organisations and people are working relentlessly hard to legalise things you cannot possibly imagine becoming legal.

Good god man, age is not a social construct, whereas gender is. While biological sex is just that, biological, the idea of gender is one constructed by society (an idea backed up by many scholars). Gender is often seen as fluid, and age is not. Gender is an internal feeling, age is not.
And can I please point out - people don't actually change their gender. I'm just going to repeat that TRANS PEOPLE DO NOT CHANGE GENDER, THEY TRANSITION PHYSICALLY. They were always 'the other gender', so gender wise you cannot change it. I am not trans myself, but I have a lot of trans friends, and I would welcome anyone within the trans community to correct me if I am wrong with what I have said, but to the best of my knowledge that is how it is.

Just because you want to be able to date younger women more easily, which let me just say right now makes me as a younger woman feel extremely uncomfortable and makes you look like a real creep, it does not mean that you can disregard the difficulties of body dysmorphia that trans people feel. If women feel uncomfortable it is their right to feel uncomfortable.
Just because you look younger it does not give you the right to change your age. Especially when your reasoning is that disgusting. You will just have to put up with it, annoying as it may be.

I know a lot of people that don't look their ages, hell, even I don't look my age. People will always say stuff, and yes it will be mildly annoying, but that's part of it. You definitely should not be able to change the law because you feel upset, wear your age with pride and move along is all!

Nope don’t care or wouldn’t be surprised if people advocate for paedophiles, age can never be changed unless we manage to prove that time is an illusion itself and our lives a cosmic simulation

I can't tell if what you just wrote was horrifically transphobic or not.

Kate Millett was known for being highly controversial. She made some really brilliant points, and other less good. And I don't think she was actually promoting paedophilia. I believe by the word children she meant teenagers - you have to look at the context in which it was written and what vocabulary meant. You also need to consider Kate Millett's work in general to be able to understand a part like that. However I think what Kate Millett was saying was nuanced, and whether I actually agree with it or not is another matter.
And it is most certainly not the only time this issue has been discussed outside of feminism.
However I sincerely do not believe someone should be able to change their age.
Years alive is scientific. Age is a social construct. We should be able to change our age to match how we feel. It's not right forcing someone whose mind is telling them they're 18 that they're really 40.

Did you read my first post?
I said younger women are typically the ones showing interest, whilst women my own age seem a lot less interested.

If I try approaching girls 25+, if they seem interested they typically start giving me sh*t about my age. A girl I kissed a while back in a club was 1 year older than me [so same age basically] and at first she was accusing me of being 22, then when i told her my age she said she looks a lot older than me. Then after a while she started to act distant ...and said something like "i just feel like this adult, and you're so shy and innocent" ..... somehow i still managed a makeout with her after this, ....but then she started acted funny again and I got annoyed and walked off.

and I ain't no creep. It's more the younger ones going for me, and the ones my age not seeming very interested ...so I am forced to go younger.
People change their physical gender because they have been born in the wrong body, you don’t get born the wrong age

Bruh you literally have to live with it. Just suck it up man.

I'm short asf and I have to live with being teased about it constantly, and being called 12, being asked for ID to buy energy drinks, etc. It can get annoying and there will always be pr*cks but that's literally just life and you're being far too idiotic about this. There are so many reasons why we should not change our age, and you getting pissed off with idiots is not good enough.

Importantly age is representative of emotional, physical, and mental maturity. Life experience. It makes a difference in who you are and how you act. The amount of men who are ten years older than me or more who try to date me and tell me that age is just a number are totally disregarding this. Age is incredibly important in social situations for this reason, and it is this reason, in part, why I feel so very uncomfortable with older men flirting with me. If you were to change that you would be manipulating the people around you, and it would be unethical and immoral.

true ageing is biological not chronological.

I am obviously aging slower biologically than the average person If I keep getting my age guessed at around 10 yrs younger. I should be able to change my chronological age to match my biological age. Just like a trans person can change their gender to match the gender they are mentally.

You are not forced to go younger. It is creepy that you believe that. Nobody is forcing you to do anything.
People act distant for all sorts of reasons. If you are a genuinely kind person, who doesn't feel entitled to people feeling attracted to you and going out with you (which you certainly have an air of) then your age would not matter. If all that is going for you is your looks, then tough luck bro find a decent personality and humbleness in there somewhere.
Seriously you seem to entitled to have other people like you and date you and be nice to you.
Just because women your age seem less interested it doesn't mean that you're forced not to date them. Perhaps it's because they're looking for personality above other things.

Everybody has the right not to like you, for whatever reason.
