Hi Ashley,

That sounds great, we look forward to meeting you. Regarding living costs, learning about everything you need to pay can be quite overwhelming. But the important thing is our uni has a lot of guidance to help you get started. You can register for free on platforms like UNiDAYS and StudentBeans and get access to hundreds of discounts from food to fashion, travel and technology there is almost nothing you can’t get a discount for. You can also buy a NUS card (National Union of Student) at the university shop, this card will get you even more discounts and it has international validity.
In addition, you should think about getting a part-time job, there are many online platforms where you can find a student job, but our university has its own recruiting agency called Talent Bank, this one has been especially helpful for me as they offer well-paid student jobs that are flexible around your studies. Hi there!

There are over 150+ societies with in the student union! They're all based at different campuses, however you'll find they are loosely based in accordance to the subject areas associated with that campus e.g. Fashion Societies/Film Societies are based out of Harrow (our Arts Campus), Environmental Society at Cavendish (Where the nutrition courses and Social Sciences courses are housed), Marketing Society/Investment Society are based out of our Marylebone Campus (Where the Business School is located) etc.

Hi Ali,

Nice to meet you! With regards to cost of living like rent, food etc. when I first moved to London, I lived in the first year halls of residence (Raffles House in Wembley Park), and their payment timeline was in line with the payments from Student Finance, making it much easier for students to keep up with! As well as this, the minimum amount of finance that students are eligible for is higher when you're applying for University in London, so this should help accommodate the price increase!

Most students will be working part-time alongside their studies like I did, as full time university typically consists of 12-16 contact hours, so although we have independent work to do, it's definitely possible to work alongside this! This allowed me to budget accordingly, and plan out my expenses! With regards to food, Wembley Park, among loads of other shops, has a Lidl, so was great for me in first year as it meant we got more food for the money we spent, and we also split the cost of big food shops within our flat, that also helped keep the costs down, and meant we could have flat dinners and could socialise more!

I've just answered a similar question about living costs so i've just pasted my answer below! i hope this helps!

Ok, there's a lot of information about scholarships but basically our university offers a lot of options both from our institution and external supporters, each scholarship has different requirements so I am going to direct you to the scholarships link so you can browse (con calma :smile:

Hi Laurel

The application process for Fashion Design at Westminster will take some time. The UCAS deadline of 15 January 2020 will mean we will receive over 800+ applications. Students who don't meet the academic entry criteria (e.g. taking A Levels) will be rejected. Students who do meet the academic criteria (Foundation Year/BTEC Diploma) will be asked to submit a mini-portfolio or project.

Interviews won't be held until late February - mid March 2020. I realise this is quite a way off and almost toward the end of the admissions cycle. I also recognise it is hard on applicants who will be anxious to know what's happening with their application. I would focus the next few months on your own studies and honing your portfolio so if you're selected for interview you will be prepared and ready.

So our University has 2 bars, on our Harrow Campus and one in our Regents Street Campus. These host a variety of different nights, including a weekly club night every Monday, and loads of other nights like pub Quiz', Karaoke nights, as well as other nights hosted by some of our societies, including Smoke Radio, and the Dragons (the University Sports Teams). The Students Union, amongst other events, host an annual gala where active members of the Students Union can win awards; this can be society presidents, influential members etc. this is a great way to get to know everyone at the university and to really see the social side of things, which can be tricky to get when you don't go to a campus university, so I'm super grateful for them!

Our Regents Bar is on site as is really handy as it's Starbucks during the day! In terms of the Harrow Bar, it's on site at that campus, which is also a 5 minute tube ride from the first year accommodation in Wembley Park so it's super easy to get to! Inevitably this being London there are also multiple student nights in Central London, so it's worth noting that there's night tube home (5 tube lines run all night) to Wembley Park every single weekend so you'll never be stuck without a way home!

Hi Emily3210,

Thanks for your question! The Psychology MSc is a conversion degree designed for those who have no prior experience studying Psychology to achieve a Masters qualification in one year. Due to this, it is definitely a demanding course! I decided to study part-time as I knew that full-time study plus work and other commitments would not be manageable for me. In saying this, I know people who were able to complete the degree full-time alongside working. I would say if you decide to study full-time and work, it would be best to have flexible working hours and to plan in advance as much as possible.

To give you an idea of essays/ assignments required, I’ll give an example of Semester 1 for full-time study. You would be studying the following 4 modules with these assessments:

-Fundamentals Conceptual Issues in Psychology (one essay)

-Quantitative Research Methods (one report, one exam)

-Qualitative Research Methods (one report)

-Social & Applied Psychology (one essay, one exam)

Bear in mind these are based on 2019/20 requirements so the assessments may change for following years!

In terms of preparation, I would recommend looking at the course handbook and the recommended reading for the each subject. It would be useful to get an idea of the subjects you will be studying and the requirements of each assignment before you start. If there is a particular subject you think you may struggle with, get a head start by researching around it, and you could even email the academic who will be teaching it if you have specific questions.
