Whitworth Park Manchester uni accommodation

I didn't live there, but have many friends who did. The general consensus is that its really conventient being so close to uni, but its very hit-and-miss with the flatmates you get. Some people end up being with people that never talk, others become best friends. But that's true for any accommodation. The fact that they have shared bathrooms is no big deal, you get used to it. It shouldnt be the biggest hang-up about not wanting to be there. Generally, univeristy student accommodation isn't the best, style-wise. The rooms are outdated.
If you want a more quiet and relaxed that is easy to roll out of bed and get to lectures in 5 minutes flat, go for Whitworth Park. If you want a more social experience, with clubbing and pub crawls, go for an accommodation in Fallowfield.

Occasionally, yes, you do get rats. But that is true for all student accommodation. Every accommodation has rats a bit, even in private halls. That's just a side effect of living in a city. But, don't worry about it. As long as the kitchen is kept tidy, you won't see them. And the accommodation staff put down traps in the flats if they report mice. There are silverfish in Whitworth, but it's generally fine.

Fallowfield is where most of the student halls are at. But I seriously don't think it's 'regret-worthy' not living there.

I lived in WW 2017/18. Yes the design is outdated but it is safe (as in not in danger of collapsing or whatnot). I heard some flats got a complete kitchen makeover so if you're lucky you might get a 'brand new' kitchen. I'd say it's a decent hall in terms of its distance and its price. In terms of flatmates, you won't know till you get there. But most will be freshers, with some 2 or 3rd years.

The flat I was in for WW was said to have a rat (my other flatmates said they saw it), but I've never seen it myself. So I dunno, maybe I was just blisfully ignorant about it. Either way if it is an issue just file a report with the estate services and they should get it sorted.

Just a general tip about campuses also...

Being in the victoria park area or close to the main campus (including Whitworth Park), you will generally get more international student than in Fallowfield. Now, I know that this shouldnt be an issue for many people. However, one of my friends in first year in Whitworth Park was in a flat with entirely Chinese students, who didnt speak to her at all and always just spoke Chinese. This should also be considered. It is luck who you are with, but Whitworth especially has the stereotype of being VERY boring, quiet and full of international students.

Well to be honest I am Romanian and I've lived here for 5 years, studying my A-levels here at the moment, so I class as an EU student and I agree with that you said like I wouldn't be happy to be in a flat with ONLY Chinese people or any other foreign nationality really I think that would be unfair to anyone. I don't mind being in a flat with international students as long there is a fair mix of nationalities, international, EU and of course English people. I think that's how it should be. It's a shame to hear this happened in Whitworth Park considering that on open days I've always been told that in general with any accommodation there is a great mix of nationalities and backgrounds.
My 5 options for accommodations were Whitworth Park (standard room with sink), Wright Robinson (standard room with sink), Oak House (same), Canterbury Court and Weston Hall both with en-suite. Now from what I heard it is not always guaranteed that you get any of these accommodations but I guess I'll see what I get in the summer after results day, that's when they start making accommodation offers isn't it?
