Can I live in any accommodation?

So I got all 5 if my decisions back with 4 out of 5 acceptances and it looks like I will probably be off to Swansea Uni. My question is this:
So my course I want to do is on one campus, but I'd prefer to live on another that's newer and only 10 mins away. Do I have to live on the same campus as the one my course is on or can I choose? Might be a silly question but I have to make the right decision here.

I assume your course is on Singleton and you want to stay on the Bay Campus. You can apply to stay on the Bay campus but be warned they are 30 minutes apart by bus not 10 minutes. Many people do exactly that and some students are placed there by the university as there are more rooms on the Bay but more study on Singleton. if you were thinking of taking a car be aware that Swansea university does not usually allow students to park on campus during day time and you will have difficulty finding places to park around the campus. The other option would be to stay in one of the brand new private halls in the city centre. Prime Student room has just opened and Oldway centre opened in September. There is also St Davids/Student Roost which opened about 5 years ago.

I was looking at that new building, Copper-something, as it said it was 12 minutes away by walking and yes my course is on Singleton. Would I be able to apply to live in a different campus like the Copper-something one?

You wiont get there in 12 minutes walking. Mo Farah might running. It is about 2 miles from where Coppergate is to the university. It will take somewhere around 30 minutes to walk it. There is a bus that runs to the campus from outside the new Coppergate building and that takes about 10 minutes. You can apply there instead of university accommodation. It is nothing to do with the university. You would need to apply directly to Prime Student letting. You will likely find there are students there from Swansea University and UWTSD and there will be a mix of all years students in there rather than mostly first years on campus. It is filling very fast and the lower floors already have waiting lists.

I see, so what would you recommend a new student like myself do in this situation? I saw Coppergate was new and amazing and am worried that the reviews of Singleton are true about it being lacklustre. I'm not sure where I want to spend a year of my life living, basically.

I have just checked with aa route planner which shows the distance as 1.8 miles. It is very difficult to recommend accommodation as individual needs differ but if you are not happy with the campus accommodation then the new halls Coppergate or Oldway Centre might be an option. Oldway is just over 2 miles away and the Student Roost accommodation is slightly further. All have the same direct bus to the campus. What you need to ask yourself and only you can really decide this is do you want to get straight out of bed into lectures in the morning or would you prefer being within walking distance of the shops and nightlife. Would you be happier amongst mainly Swansea university first years or would you prefer staying with a mix of students of all years from both universities. Are you able to visit to do a campus tour and see the private halls and come to a decision. Swansea university had an open day yesterday and have another in February. Perhaps you could visit that and come on the Friday before and look around the various halls and decide for yourself.

Would you say the pricing is steeper for Coppergate as it's new or...?

Probably but there isnt a great deal of difference between that and the en suite accommodation on Singleton or the Bay campuses

The big difference is the amounts with shared bathrooms and at the student village which are very different. All the new private halls tend to be of similar prices
https://www.primestudentliving.com/swansea/#tab-rooms-pricing-575
Oldway Centre, From £130.00 per week
St Davids
From £125 per week

As I said in my PM would you be able to visit and look what you want. It depends how far away you live.

Hey! If you want to stay close to the city center and about 10 minutes away from your campus, there are a couple of options for you.

Try taking a look at some private student flats. It's exactly like living in the University halls, you meet loads of people and you can also stay in them throughout your entire time at University.

This is something definitely worth looking into.

Let us know if you have any questions

Hi! If you are still looking for student accommodation in Swansea! Message me privately! I need someone to take over my tenancy from September 2020-July 2021 at Student Roost - St David’s! You deal with them directly but have to state that you would be replacing my tenancy! Message me with any questions! Thank you :-)
