British couple won't be extradited

A couple accused of murdering their adopted son in India for his life insurance payout cannot be extradited because it would breach their human rights, British judges ruled yesterday.

But we're all outraged at the US right now, aren't we?
Yes, but it is only the Magistrate. There's about 4 other courts the prosecution will be going through to try and extradite them...

Also, Daily Mail? At least use a more reputable newspaper company instead of a fairly extreme right wing one...
If India upgrade their human rights there wouldn't be an issue.

Do you think the facts might have been different if reported by your favourite newspaper, or are you merley jumping on a bandwagon and sneering?

You can be sentenced to a whole of life sentence with no prospect of release in Britain. Around seventy people are currently serving such sentences.

It was a High Court ruling.

Seems more sensible they will be tried in the UK.

Mate, I read broadly on every GOOD newspaper regardless of party views, but even my conservative friend wouldn't pick his dog's faeces up with the Daily Mail - much like The Sun is for those in Liverpool. It's a tabloid for those who don't know how to read the Telegraph properly, but I assume you're a DM fan otherwise you wouldn't have so much rage at someone who doesn't care for it.

Also a life sentence is 25 years maximum, so those who are currently serving them would be out before that time frame, or have had concurring sentences added to their initial murder sentence.

Isn't there an ongoing public clamour for the extraditing of Ann Sacoolas?

Indeed, the accusation is that they took out an insurance policy on his life and had him murdered in cold blood in the streets. It is gruesome and we can only hope that, shielding them from a court appearance in India, we uphold our higher moral standards by trying them over here. It would be odd to let them just walk away, what sort of higher moral ground would that be? It will be an interesting paradox to follow and it would come as no surprise that no more will come of it than in the Sacoolas case.

It’s heartbreaking that he was probably so excited to have a family and then they went and did this. I think something will be done since it’s made the news, but whether enough will be done to give them the life sentences they deserve I do not know. With the Sacoolas case it was rather powerful people, and she was a US citizen, whereas in this case the culprits are British so more action may be able to be taken.

In the US, the Democrats are pushing a bill that will make it impossible to deport any illegal immigrants no matter what crimes they may commit. They have 'sanctuary cities' where they can can seek shelter, even law officers have been found helping them out of sight. A judge has done that, by opening a back door in some courtroom for one to leg it. It's all a bit strange, a sort of fixation or determination to shelter people who are illegal or commit crimes.

We have the same thing in this country, the HRA seems to work in that way above all else. Any murder on earth would be stupid not to seek sanctuary in the UK if they stand to be imprisoned for life or executed where they come from, we will do our darn bets to make sure that they won't. It may well be very civilised on our part but we'll end up as a sanctuary country for criminals around the world, even more than we already are. On top of working as the social for it too...

So you do not understand what a whole of life sentence is? Dozens of people are serving them in the UK and they will never be released. Twenty-five years is a nonsense random figure yoiu have plucked out of nowhere. Robert Maudsley is in Britain's current longest-serving prisoner and was convicted in 1977. Much of that time has been spent in solitary and he will never be release. He is one of many. Mark Fellows received such a sentence just last year (and lost his appeal against it).

This is no different than what India offers.
