Have a question rgd partners, received an email from NCL's partners that condition of the offer is to attend summer school (think called PASS) and that there will be a test at the end of it. Offer is conditional to passing the test.

Any one any idea what kind of test and what kind of preparation it needs? It seems test results are published after results day which means students will be at risk even after accepting NCL at results day till summer school test results are published.

Getting worried and wanted to know if anyone has done the research or got more info.

Hey congrats on your offer, from my understanding, the tests at the summer school are formative, so your PARTNERS offer isn’t dependent on achieving over a certain threshold, the tests are done so that you can learn how you can apply yourself on proper med school exams as they’ll be quite similar in format.

I think after last year’s summer school, there was an MCQ assessment, an oral presentation, and some sort of clinical skills practical. I think the only subject where the standard of your performance actually matters is Dentistry.

Looks like a valuable learning experience and there shouldn’t be anything to worry about the way I see it!
Quick question....is it standard wording in the offer email that one of the conditions of the offer is "subject to satisfactory occupational health assessment" or if it says that in the offer does it mean they've picked something up from the application that requires a further assessment?? Basically....does everyone's offer say that ?

Yes everyone's offer says that, dont worry

You’ll be emailed in due course about OH, but it’s as @VoteLabour rightly says. It’s just a process of showing what immunisations you have and picking up health concerns so they know a way to best support you.

Pretty much most that requires a field- I have to drive to hockey. The bit where you have to cross from town across 4 lanes in about 200 yards majorly stresses me. But to that library it’s just straight down ozzy road and past hobo so happy days!

You probs will benefit from a car for placements but I suppose that’s a while off for you guys. For first and second year they provide transport if your gp is far (med school pay £80 for our taxi), or coach for hospitals

Most of the crossings in town are terrifying 😂 I'm ready to do the 100m sprint as soon as the lights go red lol

Yeah I've noticed the catchment area is very large, so I'll chip in and drive with coursemates (hopefully I find some lmao). That's great the med school pay 80 quid, thanks for that info!

BTW - you mentioned 12 contact hours a week? Gosh... that's less than my UG degree. I was expecting 9-4/5

Thank you....I just saw on the admissions policy info that as well as the questionnaire , that some people actually get made to have a physical assessment ...and with that being in the offer email just wondered if that meant I was definitely one of those people 🤔
Hey lads, I’m an A101 offer holder. Could’ve sworn I had an emailing re an offer holder day not long after my offer came through?? Also, any other grads thinking of getting a house with other a101ers

Hey! Congrats on your offer, I’ll definitely be up for an A101er house! Yes I’m sure there’s an offer day just for us lot in April!
A lot of our lot went up the day before and then went out in the evening. It did culminate in a few of us having to make some emergency exits from the offer holder day at a few points but it was worth it! Also gives time to look at houses if you know you’re definitley coming. But don’t worry if not because last year they timetabled time for the pub into the day so that’s a good opportunity to socialise too!

Thanks, you too! Fab I’m kinda leaning towards a grad house too - will be something to think about at the offer day!

Look forward to meeting you both!
Can anyone shed some light on halls? Where are your favourites and why?? I was thinking Castle, Marris House or Windsor Terrace. Marris and Windsor look like they have really nice kitchens and sociable eating area and also close to med school, but not sure if I’d be missing out on the social life of Castle. Castle rooms/kitchens are tiny (id be self-catered) but ive heard its the most social.....

Does anyone know if Newcastle are lenient on grades missed eg. AAB instead of AAA

Felt like being in an army bunker tbh low cielings, camp beds etc... quite a high price considering what it was...
anyone got a rough idea of living costs in newcastle? Like how much a student house is per week inc bills x

Jesmond - av £90 a week inc bills
Sandyford/Heaton/Castle Leazes probs £75 a week inc bills. A lot of variation within that obv.

I personally wouldn’t live anywhere other than jesmond but I suppose it’s expensive for the north. I’ve just had a £450 gas and electric bill for the last quarter and live by myself so that’s fun...
Castle leazes starts from £100 a week
