Girlfriend is on her phone a lot when we meet

The majority of days me and my gf meet she’s on her phone quite a bit. Always scrolling or chatting to someone else. She sits there in my house with her phone in her hand all the time ready to go on it. A time recently she messaged someone out her phone down and pulled it back out like 2 minutes later. Getting a bit annoying, when she’s with her friends she doesn’t message me but doesn’t work the same the other way around?
If you have a problem, speak it out with her. That’s the only way problems will be addressed and resolved.

Talk to her about it since thats reasonable for you to get annoyed at

I don’t want to seem like I’m controlling her or make her annoyed with me.

In this case I think she’s taking it too far in terms of not really being present with you, it is something worth being annoyed at.

She of course can use her phone but if she ignores you to do it then it’s taking over too much.
That’s just rlly rude tbh. It’s common decency.

I wouldn’t say she ignores me but I find it rude how’s she with me and she’s just messaging friends all the time with the time we have together.

I’d bring it up since it bothers you, she could still check her phone but less often maybe or whatever you two find works.

Honestly if I was your gf I'd be far more annoyed at the thought of you posting on a forum complaining about me than just talking through the issue with me.
tbh I go on my phone a lot when hanging out with friends, well not a lot but every time I receive a message, I guess its just how socially awkward a person is, like I am socially awkward at times I try not to use my phone too much when out but ig its just a coping mechanism for me for when I'm out with people when really I should be socialising. Maybe shes just introverted like that? or if shes not then just speak to her, you're not being controlling It is common decency to spend time with someone without being on ur phone too much but it isn't a really bad thing ik I always get shouted at for being on my phone too much get called 'rude' which i can understand but its just hard on me...
Whenever I am out for dinner, i see many young couples on their phones not conversing to each other... i mean what is so interesting on social media that you cant put your phone down for an hour and no go on it while you're out to eat.

has the younger generation lost their ability to have spontaneous conversations?

Usually, I think this is just because they are both feeling awkward/on a first date where there is no compatibility and their phone is an escape and defence mechanism.
Communicate this to her then

This is totally unacceptable. When you are with somebody you only answer voice calls, and you cut them short unless it's something really important. The way people can't leave their bloody phones alone reminds me of William Shatner's Tekwar series.

We’re only young, I’m 18, she’s 17 but I’m never sat there on my phone whenever I’m with her, my attention is on her and for her to repeatedly have conversations with other people I find a bit rude.

You are absolutely right. But it's not just a bit rude, it's very dude, and also selfish and inconsiderate. I'd find myself a nicer, brighter girlfriend.

Possibly.

I think some people do it naturally and are not really aware of it. I recently returned from work on a train that was very overcrowded and I noticed nearly all the younger people are looking at their phone. Even I am guilty of doing lots of TSR posting on my phone during train journeys. I treat the train like my office sometimes. However the friends I made on the train understand how important it is to me. When I have finished I join in with their convos and we have a good laugh.

However your girlfriend is another matter. If I am alone with someone I am attracted to, I never look at my phone. This is one of the first rules of etiquette. It's hard to get romantic if that pesky phone is in the way!

Tell her that it is bugging you and how important it is that she switches that phone off. It is you she is having a relationship with, so she needs to relate to you, not whoever is on the other end of the phone! If I am with someone and the phone rings, I tell them to call back later.

If she switches off her phone, tell her you will give her many, many kisses as a consolation prize!

We went to London last weekend for valentines and even then she was on her phone chatting to her friends. Was silent for like 10 minutes cuz she was just sat there typing away.
