quick question about memory foam

im doing my dt a level coursework and i need to know sumt

when you push down on memory foam does its cross-sectional area (perpendicular to force) decrease or increase.

if you dont understand basically if you push down on memory foam, and your hand print is there, does the hand print increase or decrease the area that the print is on ??
