Bristol climate strike - Greta speaking today

Greta Thunberg is speaking at College Green in Bristol today as part of the city's climate strike day. At least 30,000 people are expected to hear her.

A big day for Bristol and another example of the powerful leader Greta has become.

Right wing tools of the oil and coal industries, organised by the US Heritage Foundation which they fund, have selected an 'anti-Greta' from the German Far Right AFD party, Naomi Seibt, to try to counter the Greta effect.

Judging from Greta's global popularity, they aren't going to get far with her. :teehee:

That is ****ing creepy.

How can anyone who works for a tobacco lobbying group feel they are on the right side?

the anti-Greta protests are going to have a reality check in terms of the support for climate action haha
so I'm going to be waking up to the sound of protests tomorrow. alright then, no need to set an alarm.

Bristol seems to be like an engine room for all this stuff, they recently had teachers picketing fast-food shops and causing a stir too. It's all the phony academic brigade and their pseudo-studies, a proper hotbed of lefties with their heads in the clouds and no good for much else. This is all a load of juvenile nonsense and only gets treated with some respectability because adult lefties in positions of influence do their bidding too.

If one of the Hugos or Fanellas that attend went skiing in Italy over half term and has Covid19, won't this event spread it?

It has been pointed out that a pro-climate change news article is always first or second on CBBCs Newsround. Some primary schools play the program in class. Someone is making it the Big Issue for children, rightly or wrongly.

So in your other post you spread the lie that only affluent people care about climate change, which is a bit of a surprise given that it is the billionaire class that are determined to derail serious action against CO2 emissions.

Schools are following the lead of the world's scientific community which overwhelmingly warns of the dangers of rising CO2 levels.

It should be a big issue for children, they are going to have to live through it all their lives.

I agree it is a big issue, but if it's always the big issue all other issues will suffer.

I'm sure other topics are covered.

The people who make it the issue are the types who are no good at dealing with any other, the climate change thing is a blessing to them because it can be played with forever. There's a breed of them who specialise in the field, their contribution to the world is to shout from the rooftops that 'not enough is being done' about the climate, the NHS, the homeless, everything they can think of but it's not as if they have any answers to anything. It's just a way of making themselves noticed, the only way. This climatic issue has become absolutely grotesque, the perfect warm host for lefties to attach themselves to and reproduce.

Sheesh, enough with the conspiracy theories. Sometimes an apple is just an apple.

Well, you're a good example of what I talk about so it's not as if they don't exist.

It can't be both the issue as you put it above and only one of many issues that we bang on about - you're even contradicting yourself within two consecutive posts. Your theories about crazed single-issue lefties at least should be consistent.

Bristol is really radically left-leaning in places. I'm from there and out of all the cities I have lived in, britsol is the most socially-left leaning. It manifests in more of a hippy/communal vibe than london which is more your rich-liberal types, bristol is more your dreadlocked white hippy type. Its not a bad thing though, lots of good initiatives and positive things happen there.. lots of creativity, support for local business, and some of the communities are very vibrant and successful.

But if your right-wing, you just move to the surrounding towns, which are all heavily conservative. Enjoy the city from a distance. Of if your liberal but posher than the hippies, go to bath and be with the rest of the lib dem voters.

The greens second target seat outside of brighton, that they keep getting close to, is in bristol.. which tells you a lot.

I put a thread up for people to promote energy-saving or climate-saving products or ideas and their companies, there are many but few people know about them. I thought this was a better and more constructive response than gathering to shout and wave placards. Sadly the response wasn't enough to scare a mouse.

People do care about those things. Huge efforts are underway to provide new ways of doing things. I wouldn't point to the success or otherwise of a TSR thread as a marker of underlying interest, all kinds of random things affect thread visibility.
