What happened to Ascel (computing)

No longer a user and all his posts seem to have been deleted, including any which quote him, which is unusual. Anyone know why? Thanks

Given the reluctance from TSR to actually wipe users I would imagine that it was a data protection requested wipe.

no idea why he's gone, but he was useful regarding computers... tis a shame.

yes, most likely a data protection request wipe as TSR does not like people deleting accounts/content

tbh, you're right. all quotes of him have been deleted as well. i went back to my thread i made where he helped me out and there is no trace of him..

never seen a deletion so thorough on here before

Exactly - neither have all. All trace of him.

Yes, that sounds about right.
I do hate bumping old threads, but for closure's sake:

Can confirm, I put in a data protection request on my old account a few months back. I'd also like to note that the process was handled exceptionally well by TSR.

Not quite all traces, but pretty close. There were some hiccups removing every instance of my username, and it wasn't uncommon for my username to be mistyped (which is how I found this thread), so there's still references to me across the site. A bunch of threads I made that still have value (my laptop guide for example), were transferred to the TSR George account.
It's been pretty thorough - it usually lingers in quoted posts etc. Is Acsel2.0 here to stay, or a fleeting visit. We might have had our disagreements, but you were knowledgeable about computers and the like and what with Gofre essentially gone, it has left a bit of a void. I'm sure you have your own reasons for wanting to have all traces of your contributions which were attributable wiped, but you'd clearly fallen out of love with TSR.
@Pig received the same treatment.

Primarily I was just uncomfortable with the amount of identifiable information that had accumulated over the years, and purging the account was easiest. Given the complexity of my account, I was very impressed.

Most likely no, I won't be here to stay. I joined TSR around the time I was starting my degree, and now that I'm coming up on graduation I wanted to do a Q&A. As much as I'd love to be active in tech again, I can't commit to it and I fear if I do start posting regularly my lack of self control will have me dedicating far too much time to the site. That said I don't want to disappear entirely, and would like to drop in every now and then. I just won't be one of the go to regulars when it comes to tech questions.
By identifiable information, do you mean personal information that you posted?
If you ask for an account purge is it straightforward?

Good luck. Glad that you have resolved the ongoing crisis. That sounds a lot healthier than when you left originally.

I hope you're not thinking of leaving us Tigger?

I did come across a thread earlier today where a user was being horrible to you (and I reported them) - I hope you're ok and know that you are appreciated on here by the regular members

Well I do hope you'll drop in. I fully understand the 'dedicating too much time' to TSR - I have the same myself, with regular exiles for six months or so.

Oh yeah no worries, have been on here long enough. I very rarely catch any flack, so dont take it seriously, especially considering who it was from.
Not leaving although I should be more selective.

This one had me pondering from last night as I dont know the answer offhand, which annoys. I kind of know the areas....

I've just read that - it's quite involved. I'll post some thoughts (though I agree it's not straightforward).

Really needs a specialist, but in the circumstances not feasible.
Also some of the queries dont lend themselves to a message board as they are more involved and need interviews plus case management.
Think its to do with involuntary bailee and sounds a bigger mess because of the lack of evidence and formality by the tenant, shiftiness of the agent and the suspected shadiness of the LL in respect of communications. Might come back to it.

I agree - he needs face-to-face help really. This is why I always tell people to get things in writing. Words don't lie.

Oh that's good news ...yes you can't please all the people all the time but you are so right not to let it bother you

That one is a massive **** up from start to finish, even I could write at length what he should have done to avoid the situation but in the actual reality of the situation they are pretty ****ed.
Many thanks once again for all you did during your active time, good luck with whatever you're doing now, and glad to hear you may pop back from time to time.
