Help towards equipment for university

Is there any grants/bursary to help towards equipment for university e.g camera and laptop for photography course

What about loaning equipment from the uni?

My uni has a loans system for arts courses whereby you can loan cameras/audio equipment/iPads etc. for free for a month or so (and renew if needed/able)
I will definitely look into that! Do I just contact the university? As I will be doing foundation year first

As a general rule, if there is an expectation for you to use specialist and/or expensive equipment you will have access to this as part of your course. It'll vary from university to university (and course to course), but there may be the option to loan out cameras, libraries will have computers for general use and there may be a dedicated computing lab for photography students. The best thing to do here is to get in touch with the university and discuss what sort of expectations they have for the students.

Beyond that, most people will rely on their student loan or work income to make personal purchases. For those that need additional support (disability, low income, etc.) there may be further funding and other support available. However if it's purely a matter of not being able to afford a camera or laptop, the university should still offer sufficient resources and facilities to get you through your course. That is what you're paying £9250 a year for after all. If you want your own stuff, which ultimately is more a matter of convenience than absolute necessity, it'll be a matter of finding something within budget and saving up for it I'm afraid.

An often overlooked but very important part of going to university is managing your finances. You'll get a student loan to help cover living costs, but it's going to be up to you to work out if it'll be enough, if you'll need to work and make up the difference, if you'll have money left over for something like a laptop, etc. It's very important to consider the financial implications of university.
